Job Description
We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more technically rigorous AI models — and we need mechanical engineers to make it happen. This is a unique opportunity to apply your deep domain knowledge to one of the most consequential technology challenges of our time: teaching AI to reason correctly about the physical world.
Mechanical Engineering — AI Trainer
You'll challenge advanced language models on topics like fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and mechatronics — stress‑testing their reasoning, catching their mistakes, and helping them get better.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
- Design Advanced Engineering Problems — Create rigorous, domain‑specific challenges across FEA, heat transfer, kinematics, material science, and more to probe the limits of AI reasoning.
- Author Ground‑Truth Solutions — Write precise, step‑by‑step technical solutions that serve as the benchmarks AI models learn from.
- Audit AI Outputs — Evaluate AI‑generated CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (ASME, ISO, etc.).
- Sharpen AI Reasoning — Identify and document logical failures — incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, flawed assumptions — and provide structured feedback that directly improves model performance.
Who You Are
- Advanced Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field (Master's pursuing or completed, or PhD)
- Strong Domain Knowledge in core ME disciplines — solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
- Clear Technical Communicator — able to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical reasoning in writing with precision and clarity
- Detail‑Oriented — meticulous when checking derivations, unit conversions, boundary conditions, and system constraints
- No prior AI or data annotation experience required
Nice to Have
- Experience with data annotation, quality evaluation, or technical review workflows
- Hands‑on familiarity with engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS
- Background in research, academia, or technical writing
Why This Role
- Work fully remotely on a flexible schedule that fits around your existing commitments
- Contribute directly to cutting‑edge AI development alongside top research labs
- Apply your engineering expertise in a novel, intellectually stimulating environment
- Gain firsthand exposure to how large language models are trained and evaluated
- Freelance autonomy — you choose when and how much you work
- Potential for ongoing contract extension based on performance
