Company

Vickerstock are working in partnership with a well-established specialist engineering and manufacturing business in the recruitment of a Machine Build Engineer (Mechatronics Engineer).

The position is currently based in the Dundonald area, with the company shortly relocating to new purpose-built premises in Comber.

This is a particularly attractive opportunity to join a friendly, very dynamic engineering business offering an excellent working environment and work-life balance. They have a very positive culture across the company. The position is permanent, site based and days only Monday to Friday, with a 37.5-hour week and flexible start and finish times.

The role is focused on building specialist machinery from component level through to a completed and tested machine. This includes mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, fitting electronic components and controls, pneumatic systems, uploading software and ultimately testing the finished equipment.

We are particularly interested in speaking with someone who has progressed beyond apprentice level and already has practical experience of machine building or assembling electromechanical equipment.

The Role of Machine Build Engineer

Working as part of the engineering team, you will be responsible for building machinery from initial kitting and assembly through to electrical wiring, installation of electronic components, software upload, testing and final inspection.

This is a genuinely multi-skilled machine build position rather than a repetitive assembly role. You will work across mechanical components, electrical systems, electronics, pneumatics and machine controls, giving you involvement in virtually every stage of taking a machine from individual components through to a fully operational finished product.

You will also work alongside a team of 3 Engineering Apprentices and liaise closely with Design Engineers when building customised equipment and new products.

Key Responsibilities for this Machine Build Engineer position

  • Complete mechanical assembly of machinery and equipment.
  • Assemble and wire electrical panels and associated electrical systems.
  • Install electronic components and machine control hardware.
  • Build and connect pneumatic systems.
  • Work accurately from mechanical, electrical and pneumatic engineering drawings.
  • Upload software onto machinery and support machine setup.
  • Complete machine testing and final inspection, including PAT testing.
  • Assemble, test and inspect associated tooling.
  • Kit components and parts from stock in preparation for machine builds.
  • Work alongside Design Engineers to build and test customised equipment and new products.
  • Work alongside and provide practical support to the Engineering Apprentices within the team.
  • Potentially travel to customer sites on occasion to support machine servicing or repair.

Essential Criteria for this Machine Build Engineer position

  • HND/HNC in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering, or another relevant Engineering qualification.
  • Previous post-apprenticeship experience within machine building, equipment assembly or a similar engineering environment.
  • Practical experience across mechanical and electrical assembly.
  • Experience working from mechanical and electrical engineering drawings.
  • Experience or a good understanding of pneumatic systems.
  • Comfortable working with electronic components, software and machine control systems.
  • Good general IT skills.
  • A practical, hands-on approach to building, testing and fault-finding machinery.

Experience within machine building, special purpose machinery, automation, packaging machinery, control systems or another electromechanical engineering environment would be particularly relevant.

If you are an experienced Machine Build Engineer, Mechatronics Engineer, Assembly Engineer, Mechatronics Technician, Engineering Technician, Maintenance Engineer, Maintenance Technician, Service Engineer or Machine Builder who enjoys working across mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering rather than being restricted to one discipline, this could be an excellent opportunity to join a company offering interesting work, good conditions and a strong work-life balance.

To apply for this Machine Build Engineer position, please submit your CV or contact Hugh Nugent at Vickerstock for a confidential discussion. All approaches will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.
