Job Description

Role Overview The Senior Lighting Design Engineer will work within the Lighting and Energy Solutions team, collaborating with multi‑disciplinary design teams, stakeholders, and clients to deliver high‑quality lighting solutions across a range of sectors. Responsibilities Act as a liaison with colleagues, stakeholders and clients. Create detailed design layouts, engineering drawings, and support documentation in line with WSP’s QA and client requirements.

Prepare feasibility reports, technical notes, optioneering reports and specifications. Engage with luminaire, column, controls and electrical manufacturers. Coordinate with contractors, including site support, responding to RFIs and TQs.

Conduct non‑intrusive site visits to support lighting assessments and site clearance drawings. Develop project proposals and track progress against agreed milestones and budget constraints. Assist with engagement of local authority and strategic road network clients, building strong working relationships.

Support early‑career professionals on their career journeys. Represent WSP within the lighting industry, fostering industry relationships and driving business development. Your Team Part of a growing, multi‑disciplinary team covering Electrical and EV, Environmental, Local Government, Architectural and Strategic Road Network specialisms.

Member of a global network of lighting specialists and experts. Opportunities for professional membership and CPD sessions. Work on projects across Commercial, Urban Realm, Transportation and Infrastructure sectors with national and local government and private clients.

Qualifications Proficient in LightingReality or Dialux lighting design software and AutoCAD. Strong understanding of external lighting standards, guidance, legislation and regulations. General awareness of electrical design and lighting maintenance operations.

Experience in lighting design from conception to issue for construction. Good understanding of central management systems. Independent and team working with excellent communication and organisational skills.

Experience in Local Government or Strategic Road Network sectors. Knowledge of external lighting products. Membership of a relevant professional organisation and Eng Tech registration with the Engineering Council.
