Job Summary Responsible for building key relationships with physicians and referral sources; serves as the clinic mentor and liaison in rolling out clinical treatment guidelines that have been approved by leadership; assists manager in holding the clinical staff/team accountable to best practice guidelines, which includes documentation of operational metrics set forth by the business unit. Supports the Clinic Manager or Director to ensure that departmental objectives are efficiently conducted within the framework of the stated purpose of the organization and in accordance with current standards of rehabilitation medicine.

May be a Physical or Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant; reports to the clinic manager or Director. Job Description Minimum Qualifications Education: Degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Physical Therapist Assistant/Occupational Therapist Assistant as described below from an accredited Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or PTA/COTA program. Licenses/Certifications: Current license to practice Physical Therapy by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission, or Current License to practice Occupational Therapy by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners Advanced certification (ATC, SCS, OCS, manual, women’s health, CHT, etc) required within two years of entering into position Current Basic Life Support certification A physical therapist practicing direct access: Education: Doctoral degree along with a residency or fellowship program, OR Licensed therapist with 30 hours of continuing competence activities in differential diagnosis Licenses/Certifications: Current license to practice Physical Therapy by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission A physical therapy assistant or occupational therapy assistant: Education: Associate Degree in Applied Science from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program or Occupational Therapist (COTA) program.

Licenses/Certifications: Current license to practice as a physical therapy assistant (PTA) by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission or current license to practice as an occupational therapy assistant (COTA) by the Texas Board of Occupation Therapy Examiners. Advanced certification (ATC, SCS, OCS, manual, women’s health, CHT, etc) required within two years of entering into position Principal Accountabilities Build relationships with physicians and referral sources. Positions SMR/ISMI as a resource to our referral sources; regular, positive interaction with physicians and their staff, developing and updating protocols/guidelines, introducing new staff to physicians, presenting opportunities for mutual benefit for SMR/ISMI and MD (ie. lunch and learns, community events, etc) Develops efficient methods to communicate clinical and patient-related information between our staff and the physician to produce excellent physician-patient-therapist communication and positive referral trends (gross referrals from MD vs referral rate).

Serve as clinical mentor. Serve as clinical liaison for assigned physician. Work specifically with all members of his/her team to elevate clinical skill for any physicians and any diagnosis, on a formal or informal basis.

Orient new employees to practices and procedures. Accountable to maintain current clinical level guideline standards Create and monitor the positive patient experience in own practice and in team. Assist in the management of clinic operations.

Facilitate attainment of organizational/clinical objectives through managing team members. Ensure awareness of clinic goals for new patients, visits, and units, awareness of staff performance on key indicators of productivity (visits per hour, units per hour, % arrivals, etc). Assist in developing plans to meet staffing needs (when short-staffed or over-staffed as well as in the hiring process).

Participation in “Best Practice” development and evaluation. Provide feedback to clinic director regarding staff performance, morale, obstacles/success, with suggestions for operational improvements Presents relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings and meetings as delegated or requested by the faculty. Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.

Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff. Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
