Job Description

The Role Information Technology Analyst – Network Support to support NRC’s digital services and infrastructure. The incumbent will work as a member of the Chief Information Officer Branch (CIOB), providing IT support services for distributed computers and networks across various Research Centres/Branches/IRAP of NRC. Responsibilities include managing and maintaining network devices, monitoring network performance, troubleshooting connectivity issues, assisting with network security implementations, writing documentation, and participating in network infrastructure projects.
Screening Criteria Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates: Education College diploma in Computer Science or related field. Bachelor degree in Computer Science from a recognized University considered an asset. Consideration may be given to candidates with significant experience and a High School diploma.
Experience Significant experience in supporting network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless networks. Significant experience installing, configuring, operating and maintaining a network (hardware, software, desktops and peripherals) in a corporate IT environment. Significant experience writing technical documentation, including network configuration guides, troubleshooting procedures, and Helpdesk articles.
Experience with the use and configuration of devices using the Linux operating system (Ubuntu, Red Hat). Significant experience is defined as having the depth and breadth of experience that would normally have been gained performing the duties over a period of three (3) years or more. Experience in the following is considered an asset: Experience in network scripting or automation (Python, Ansible, PowerShell, etc.) to support and automate network configuration and management.
Experience supporting servers, virtual machines (VMs), and network services in a production environment. Experience with endpoint management tools such as Microsoft Intune, JamF or similar MDM solutions for networked devices. Experience with the use and configuration of OSX, iOS and Android devices.
Experience implementing network or system hardening standards such as CIS Benchmarks, NIST, or other security frameworks. CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA certification. Condition of Employment Secret (II).
A thorough security clearance process will be applied. For a Secret Clearance, verification of background information over a period of 10 years is required. Individuals must have lived in Canada for a sufficient period of time to enable the security screening process.
Assessment Criteria Technical Competencies Solid knowledge of network operating systems and protocols, including Windows Server, Linux, and network device OSes. Knowledge of networking concepts and technologies, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, DHCP, DNS and VPNs. Knowledge of scripting/programming for network automation and troubleshooting (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
Ability to research and analyze complex IT and network issues, providing sound advice and expertise to clients, team members, and management. Knowledge of network and endpoint management tools (Microsoft Intune, network monitoring platforms). Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation.
Understanding of network security concepts and ability to implement hardening measures. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced IT/network environment.
