Job Description
Overview The IBD Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will provide a highly specialist nursing contribution to the clinical management and education of patients referred to the service in collaboration with the multidisciplinary IBD team across hospital and community settings. Responsibilities Act as a clinical expert within the field of IBD medicine, setting high standards of quality care, facilitation and clinical leadership. Develop and implement clinical nursing services, including local application of national strategies and contribution to strategic decision‑making and policy development.
Provide expert clinical advice and education to patients, promoting a self‑management culture that supports health and wellbeing. Deliver specialist education and training to other professionals involved in patient care. Lead the development, management and promotion of the service, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, cost‑effective care and responsive to patients’ needs.
Promote a person‑centred care philosophy and co‑create care plans with individuals affected by IBD. Provide an autonomous specialist nursing service to IBD patients by attending referrals and delivering holistic care. Partner with patients and their families/carers to promote self‑care and independence through education and self‑management plans.
Make clinical judgements based on experience and knowledge and take appropriate action, including requesting diagnostic tests within the agreed sphere of competence. Use advanced communication to alleviate psychological distress in IBD patients and their families, identifying the need for onward referral to other agencies. Motivate self and others, work autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
Delegate responsibilities for staff appraisal, managing attendance and performance capability. Continue to develop knowledge and expertise to a higher academic standard. Work across professional boundaries using creative reasoning and problem‑solving.
Qualifications Registered General Nurse First‑level degree in a related subject Post‑basic qualification in cancer or palliative care Evidence of continued professional development Recognised teaching qualification Clinical diagnostics or nurse prescribing qualification IT qualification Evidence of master’s‑level learning #J-18808-Ljbffr
