Connect. Grow. We are a contract of innovators, thinkers, creators, explorers, volunteers and dreamers and we all share one goal: to improve the world responsibly and safely.

On the Human Health and Performance Contract we are at the forefront of safeguarding astronaut health, ensuring human performance, and advancing technologies for human space exploration. We are seeking a Human Performance Sensors Engineer at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX. WhatYou’llDo: Install, configure, and maintain IoT sensors, gateways, and edge compute devices in lab and facility environments.

Write small scripts and tools in Python or Go to automate device provisioning, data collection, and routine diagnostics. Monitor device health and connectivity, triage issues in the field, and resolve them with the broader engineering team. Support data flow from edge devices to upstream systems, including cloud endpoints (AWS) where applicable.

Document deployments, network topology, and standard operating procedures so the team can scale what works. Partner with networking, security, and software teams to keep deployments reliable and compliant with site requirements. Demonstrate a positive problem-solving attitude with an enthusiasm for working as part of an exceptional team.

Demonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to the customer and team. Serve as a test subject for protocol and hardware evaluations on a volunteer basis. Maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the Company.

Perform other duties as assigned. In this role, you will have the opportunity to do hands-on work at one of the most iconic engineering sites in the world. You will have mentorship from senior engineers across embedded, cloud, and networking domains, and a clear path to grow into edge architecture, cloud engineering, or network engineering depending on your interests.

Through this role, you will have exposure to real systems, real users, and real consequences— the kind of experience that is hard to find anywhere else early in your career. Who You'll Work With You will join our Data and Software team — a six-year-old group born from a simple vision: data collection and access shouldn't be cumbersome. We build functional, reliable products to enable data collection and support astronauts and researchers to build real-world systems.

Our work spans flight operations, EVA planning, human performance, and exploration mission systems. Recent and ongoing work from team members includes: EVA Mission Systems Software (EMSS) – software systems supporting science and operations in the planning and execution of Artemis EVAs. Human thermal analysis and core body temperature prediction during simulated lunar EVA tasks.

Metabolic consumption modeling for ISS EVA planning. Helmet-mounted display technology for EVA training in NASA’s Neutral Buoyancy Lab. Unobtrusive measurement strategies for individual and team competencies across analog environments.

Integrated cardiovascular and central nervous system modeling for microgravity-induced fluid redistribution. Requirements What You Bring: This role is ideal for someone who is hands-on, curious, and excited to work in a mission-driven environment alongside engineers and researchers. In this role, you will be expected to comply with KBR’s Safety, Health and Environmental Plan, Quality Plan, and all safety policies and procedures, and complete all assigned training.

Your Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related field, with 1-5 years of professional experience. Exposure to IoT or edge devices through coursework, internships, personal projects, or hobbyist work. Must be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Your Skills: REQUIRED Basic coding ability in Python or Go. Comfortable reading code, modifying scripts, and writing small utilities from scratch. Ability to work in a Git workflow.

Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to be on-site and hands-on. Comfortable troubleshooting unfamiliar problems and learning new tools quickly. Interest in human performance monitoring, aerospace physiology, and wearable biosensors, or a demonstrated curiosity about the intersection of hardware, physiological data, and operational research.

At least one strong professional reference who can speak directly to your work ethic, reliability, and follow-through. DESIRED Exposure to AWS services – IoT Core, Greengrass, Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, or similar. Networking experience or genuine interest in learning: TCP/IP fundamentals, VLANs, DNS/DHCP, routing, firewalls, or wireless protocols.

Linux command-line comfort and basic shell scripting. Familiarity with MQTT, REST APIs, or time-series databases. Any prior experience working in regulated, secure, or research environments.

What to Expect This is an on-site position. The selected candidate must be able to work in person at Johnson Space Center. Occasional travel may be required.

GCS health and welfare benefits are designed to invest in you, and in the things you care about. Typical benefits offered include flexible work schedules and opportunities to work remotely, educational reimbursement, retirement benefits (401K, Roth), health benefits, tax saving options, disability benefits, life and accident insurance, voluntary benefits, paid time off and paid holidays, and parental and pregnancy leave.
