Job Description

Salary: CAD $41.42 – $55.91 per hour. Hours: Start/stop times, days off, work area, and site may be subject to change per operations, the collective agreement, and statutes. Testing and a criminal record check may be required.

Location: Geriatric Psychiatry Unit, Mount St. Joseph's Hospital, Mount Pleasant. Shifts primarily 07:30‑19:30 and 19:30‑07:30.

Your duties will include Patient Care and Assessment: Review patient/resident status, assess problems and needs, develop, implement, and evaluate personalized care plans, monitor progress, document observations, and modify plans based on evaluations. Crisis Management and Interventions: Provide direct nursing interventions for crisis and life‑threatening situations, ensuring timely and appropriate responses to patient needs. Team Collaboration and Supervision: Offer clinical direction and support to other staff, including Care Attendants and Licensed Practical Nurses; participate in interdisciplinary team activities and contribute to effective teamwork.

Patient and Family Education: Identify learning needs, provide educational materials, lead group sessions, and coach patients/residents and families to develop and maintain health‑promoting behaviors. Education Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives, including Residential Care and Mental Health, or current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse. One year recent experience in acute psychiatry or tertiary mental health, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service. Ability to work as a member in an interdisciplinary team.

Ability to apply decision making and analytical skills. Ability to deal with others effectively. Ability to role model conflict resolution strategies.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Ability to prioritize and organize work. Ability to operate related equipment.

Ability to teach and identify patient/resident learning needs. Ability to lead patient/family group sessions. Ability to provide clinical direction.
