Think “TurboTax for PI Law” — combining AI-powered document extraction, intelligent case valuation, and prescriptive workflows to transform how attorneys manage cases. The Opportunity We’re looking for an exceptional AI Engineer to design, implement, and scale the AI systems powering OneCounsel.

You will work closely with Anthropic Claude and modern LLM ecosystems to build intelligent workflows, document extraction systems, and case valuation models. This is a rare chance to: Own the AI architecture from prototype to production Work directly with cutting-edge LLMs Build AI-powered document extraction pipelines Design algorithms for intelligent case valuation Create next-step workflow recommendations Shape the AI strategy for a fast-growing legal tech startup What You’ll Do AI Development & Integration Implement AI-driven document extraction using Claude Build parsing and intelligence systems for legal documents Develop case valuation algorithms Build prescriptive workflow engines Implement prompt engineering strategies Develop retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems Backend Architecture Design backend services in Node.js/Python Build REST APIs for AI integration Implement async job processing Create pipelines for document processing and storage (S3) Optimize LLM usage for cost and performance Implement fault tolerance and retry logic Data & ML Design data models for legal documents and cases Perform data validation and quality assurance Build feedback loops to improve model accuracy Develop evaluation metrics Explore fine-tuning and few-shot learning Work with structured/unstructured legal datasets Collaboration & Quality Collaborate asynchronously with US-based founder Integrate AI features with React/Next.js UI Write tests for AI components and services Document AI architecture and prompt strategies Participate in code reviews Monitor AI systems in production Who You Are Required Skills 8 years of software development experience 3 years with AI/ML in production Experience with Claude, OpenAI, or similar LLMs Proficiency in Python or Node.js/TypeScript Experience with OCR, text parsing, and document intelligence Experience with TTS, Translation, Transcription Experience with building models from scratch Experience with integrating with Java/Python backend applications Strong prompt engineering capabilities Experience building Secure REST APIs AWS experience (S3, Lambda, etc.) Strong testing fundamentals Excellent communication skills Ability to work independently Preferred Skills Experience with RAG architectures Experience with vector databases Experience with embeddings and semantic search Experience with S3 Vector store Experience with Relational and No-SQL databases Frontend integration experience Experience with ML frameworks (PyTorch/TensorFlow) NLP experience Experience with B2B SaaS Legal or healthcare domain exposure Experience with LangChain/LlamaIndex Experience with Agentic frameworks such as LangGraph, CrewAI, Autogen Understanding of AI safety Soft Skills & Mindset Product-minded Ownership-driven Strong async communicator Fast learner Pragmatic and balanced Quality-focused Why Join OneCounsel?
