GCP Data Engineer (BigQuery) — Chennai

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced GCP Data Engineer with strong hands-on expertise in BigQuery to join our team in Chennai on a full-time, on-site basis. The ideal candidate will design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines and warehousing solutions on Google Cloud Platform, enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines on GCP
• Build and optimize data models and queries in BigQuery for performance and cost efficiency
• Work with large-scale structured and unstructured datasets
• Implement data ingestion frameworks using Dataflow, Dataproc, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Composer (Airflow)
• Develop and manage event-driven workflows using Cloud Functions
• Collaborate with data analysts, scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and governance across pipelines
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize existing data infrastructure
• Implement best practices for security, scalability, and performance on GCP
• Document data architecture, pipelines, and processes

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 7–12 years of overall experience in Data Engineering
• Strong experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Hands-on expertise in:
• BigQuery
• Cloud Composer (Airflow)
• Dataflow
• Dataproc
• Pub/Sub
• Cloud Storage
• Cloud Functions
• Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (Python/Java/Scala)
• Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, data modeling, and ETL/ELT design
• Experience working with large-scale datasets and performance tuning in BigQuery
• Good understanding of data governance, security, and compliance practices
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
