English teacher

Role Purpose

We are seeking English Teachers to join our teaching team. Successful candidates may teach in Primary School (Years 1–4), Secondary School, or across both levels, depending on their qualifications, experience, and the school's needs.

The purpose of this role is to deliver high-quality English language instruction, supporting students in developing strong linguistic skills while fostering an appreciation for the English language and culture through engaging, student-centred teaching approaches.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver English lessons in line with the curriculum and the school's educational philosophy.
• Develop differentiated teaching strategies tailored to students' individual learning needs and abilities.
• Promote English language communication through active learning methodologies and meaningful learning experiences.
• Continuously assess student progress, maintaining accurate records and monitoring academic development.
• Create a positive, inclusive, and motivating learning environment.
• Encourage participation, independence, critical thinking, and confidence in using the English language.
• Maintain constructive communication with families, where appropriate.
• Actively participate in staff meetings, professional development activities, educational projects, and school events.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the school community to support student success and achieve institutional goals.
• Comply with all school policies, procedures, and internal regulations.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and/or Master's degree in English Language Teaching, Languages, Education, or a related field.
• Qualified Teacher Status in Portugal or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

Experience

• Previous experience teaching English is highly desirable.
• Experience teaching in Primary School, Secondary School, or both is an advantage.
• Experience implementing innovative teaching methodologies will be considered a strong asset.

Technical Skills

• Excellent command of the English language (C2 level or equivalent).
• Intermediate level of Portuguese or higher, with the ability to communicate effectively within the school environment.
• Strong knowledge of English language teaching methodologies.
• Competence in lesson planning, assessment, and differentiated instruction.
• Proficiency in using digital technologies within an educational environment.
