Job Description
Location Halifax, NS Position Electrical Engineer – Strategic Infrastructure Division (SID) Employment Type Term Salary $1,724.45 – $2,371.12 per week Benefits Health Insurance Dental Insurance Paid Time Off Pension Plan Life Insurance Disability Insurance Employee Assistance Program Responsibilities Review program requirements, user group needs, schematics, drawings, specifications and contract documents to ensure conformance with project requirements, codes and industry standards. Evaluate and quantify the impact of changes on project outcomes. Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to the Project Delivery Team.
Identify opportunities to enhance healthcare project delivery and facility operations by recommending improved methods and system changes. Act as an electrical engineer subject matter expert for multiple healthcare projects. Read and understand contract documents.
Visualize two‑dimensional drawings in three dimensions. Manage and support the project team, including direct reports and others as needed. Help drive healthcare environmental health and safety programs at the project level, with a sustainable and safety‑oriented approach to work.
Support the Project Delivery Team through all phases of projects including planning, design, tender, construction, commissioning and closeout of large and complex healthcare projects, supporting various delivery methods such as P3, DBB, CM and DB. Qualifications A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university (e.g., ABET in the US or CEAB in Canada). Must be a licensed Professional Engineer with a minimum of 8 years’ experience in building design and construction, licensed in Nova Scotia or able to obtain a license within 6–12 months.
Experience in electrical engineering design and management on healthcare projects or a related field, with knowledge of building and healthcare industry standards and requirements. Minimum of 3 years’ experience with CSA healthcare electrical standards, current national codes and standards, including CSA standards such as Z32, C282, Z8000 and Z317.13‑12. Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and familiarity with CSA standards.
Experience with Integrated Design Process (IDP) and early stakeholder alignment. Ability to review and red‑line construction documents, coordinate all disciplines and assets. Familiarity with spreadsheet, budgeting and project scheduling software is an asset.
Continuing education in healthcare issues/trends or conflict resolution is an asset. Basic understanding of construction contracts and specifications, including Master Format, Canadian Construction Documents Committee Standards and performance‑based specifications. Familiarity with the Department of Public Works Design Requirements Manual (DC350) and Nova Scotia Structured Cabling Guidelines is an asset.
Ability to multi‑task and manage several project portfolios simultaneously. Basic knowledge of safety procedures in a construction environment.
