Director, Anti-Financial Crime Engineering
LSEG
Job Description
ROLE SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly qualified Director of Anti‑Financial Crime (AFC) Engineering to lead and evolve our financial crime technology capability during a period of significant transformation and organisational maturity.
In addition to overseeing major platform implementations (including a new third‑party KYC/CDD SaaS solution, fraud, ABC, tax evasion monitoring and case management), the role will play a key part in transitioning the AFC technology estate from a programme‑driven delivery model to product‑led operating model, underpinned by Agile and DevOps practices.
The Director will provide calm, credible leadership to a growing engineering function, guiding it through transformation while embedding balanced ways of working suited to a large, regulated financial services organisation.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Leadership & Strategy
- Provide clear and stable leadership to AFC engineering teams, setting technical and operational direction aligned with business and regulatory priorities.
- Own the maturation of the AFC engineering function, embedding a product‑centric mindset, clear accountability, and sustainable delivery practices.
- Develop long‑term technology strategy for Financial Crime platforms, balancing regulatory change, innovation, and operational resilience.
Transformation & Product Operating Model
- Oversee delivery of the Financial Crime transformation programme, including:
- Implementation of a 3rd‑party KYC/CDD SaaS platform
- Fraud, ABC, and tax evasion monitoring capabilities
- Modernised case management and investigative workflows
- Support and guide the organisation’s transition from time‑bound change programmes to a perpetual product model, with persistent teams, clear product ownership, and outcome‑based roadmaps.
- Embed Agile delivery and DevOps practices appropriate for a regulated environment, strengthening:
- Continuous delivery and improvement
- Production ownership and support models
- Automation, quality, and release discipline
- Ensure new and existing AFC platforms are designed for long‑term evolution rather than one‑off delivery.
Engineering, Architecture & DevOps
- Ensure platforms are secure, scalable, resilient, and aligned with enterprise architecture and technology risk standards.
- Drive adoption of DevOps principles across AFC engineering, including CI/CD, environments, monitoring, and incident management.
- Ensure effective integration across data platforms, core systems, and third‑party vendors.
- Balance speed of delivery with strong control frameworks, segregation of duties, and auditability.
Stakeholder & Change Partnership
- Work closely with the Financial Crime Change Programme Director, programme managers, and product leaders to align delivery, funding, and operating model changes.
- Partner with enterprise engineering teams to align AFC practices with broader Agile, DevOps, and platform strategies.
- Collaborate extensively with:
- Operations and Investigations
- Compliance and Financial Crime Risk
- Internal Audit and Risk Management
- Technology governance and resilience teams
Governance & Risk
- Own engineering governance for AFC platforms, including delivery assurance, technology risk management, and vendor oversight.
- Ensure Agile and DevOps practices meet regulatory expectations for control, traceability, and accountability.
- Act as a senior technology representative in audits, regulatory inspections, and internal risk reviews.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Essential Skills
- Senior leadership experience (Director or equivalent) leading financial crime or compliance technology engineering in large financial services organisations.
- Proven experience delivering AFC transformation initiatives while evolving operating models toward product‑led delivery.
- Practical, senior‑level understanding of Agile and DevOps or equivalent experience in regulated environments.
- Strong understanding of global financial crime regulatory requirements (AML, KYC/CDD, fraud, ABC, tax evasion).
- Demonstrated success leading growing and maturing engineering teams through change.
- Ability to balance transformation, regulatory compliance, and live‑service operational stability.
- Proven expertise in delivering architecture and build for modern, cloud‑native AFC platforms and event‑driven architecture.
WHAT YOU'LL GET IN RETURN
- Be part of a global Financial Crime transformation programme.
- Work with best‑in‑class vendor platforms and modern engineering stacks.
- Collaborative, flexible, and globally connected work culture.
