Crane Truck Driver / Operator โ€“ 28m Reach Vehicle Loading Crane

Milkon Steel | Melbourne, VIC Full-time (full-time / casual)

About us

Milkon Steel is a Melbourne-based structural steel business delivering fabrication and installation across commercial projects. We're growing, and we've recently added a crane truck with a 28-metre reach and 7.6m tray to support our site delivery and lifting capability. We're looking for an experienced operator to run it.

About the role

You'll be the dedicated driver and operator of our crane truck โ€” a tandem-rear-axle rigid with a 7.6m tray and 28m crane reach โ€” responsible for the safe transport, loading, unloading and precision placement of structural steel and materials on our sites and at client locations. This is a hands-on role where your lifting judgement and care for the gear directly affect site safety and project timelines.

Drive a 3-axle rigid crane truck (tandem rear, 7.6m tray) safely between the yard, fabrication facility and project sites

Conduct pre-start checks, daily inspections and basic maintenance; report defects promptly

Plan and execute lifts safely, including assessing loads, ground conditions and exclusion zones

Work in with riggers, doggers and site crews to coordinate lifts

Secure and restrain loads in line with load restraint requirements

Maintain compliance with all WHS, traffic and site safety requirements

What you'll need

Heavy Rigid (HR) truck licence (minimum) โ€” the truck is a 3-axle rigid with a tandem rear group

Manual licence (not auto-restricted) โ€” the truck is a manual

Vehicle Loading Crane high-risk work licence (CV) for a crane of this capacity

Construction Induction Card (White Card)

Proven experience operating a vehicle-loading / crane truck, ideally in steel, construction or heavy materials

Confidence handling and reversing a long-tray rigid (7.6m) on site and in tight access

Sound understanding of lift planning, load charts and load restraint

Strong safety focus and the ability to work independently and as part of a crew

Reliable, punctual and able to take care of company equipment

Dogging (DG) and/or Rigging tickets

Experience handling structural steel

HC or MC licence

What we offer

A dedicated crane truck to operate as your own

Steady work with a growing local steel company

Competitive rate based on experience (confirm pay/rate)
