Job Title: Cover Manager Location: Leicester Salary: Band G SCP 11-14 (24,598 - 26,683 Actual Salary) Job Type: Full Time - Permanent (37 hours per week, Term Time Only plus additional term-time days) Start Date: ASAP An organised and proactive Cover Manager is required to oversee the coordination of daily staff absence cover while also delivering pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects and year groups. This is a varied role combining operational management with classroom delivery. The successful candidate will ensure continuity of learning by organising effective cover arrangements each morning and stepping into lessons where required.
The position plays a vital part in maintaining a calm, structured and productive learning environment across the school. Key Responsibilities Coordinate and manage daily cover arrangements for teaching staff absence. Deploy internal cover staff and liaise with external agencies to secure supply staff when required.
Begin work at 7:00am to prepare and publish the daily cover schedule by 8:00am. Deliver pre-prepared lessons across a variety of subjects at KS3 and KS4. Maintain high expectations of behaviour and ensure students remain engaged and on task.
Act as the main point of contact for supply agencies and cover staff. Provide clear communication and guidance regarding cover arrangements. Maintain accurate records of staff absence and cover provision using relevant systems.
Monitor the effectiveness of cover arrangements and provide reports where required. Ensure all safeguarding procedures are followed and report concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead. Requirements Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Ability to respond effectively in a fast‑paced and changing environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Confidence delivering lessons to secondary‑aged students.
High attention to detail and accuracy in record‑keeping. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using management information systems (MIS) or cover software (desirable). Professional, reliable and punctual approach to work.
Clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and commitment to student welfare. Desirable Experience as a Cover Supervisor, HLTA or Unqualified Teacher. Previous experience working in a secondary school environment.
