About The Role The role includes working with a dynamic team who are passionate about Medical Retina and Macula services. The role primarily consists of providing intravitreal therapy in an outpatient environment. There is the potential to develop in other Clinical Nurse Specialist services such as post‑op cataract and post‑op oculoplastic assessment, and Lacrimal Clinics.
Further development opportunities include providing leadership and guidance to new and junior members of the team. Main Duties To undertake specialist assessment of patients Ophthalmic needs and to plan, implement and evaluate care delivery using clinical knowledge and skills To provide intravitreal treatment for various eye conditions including wet age‑related macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema and retinal vein occlusions To establish and maintain effective communication with patient and carers To actively engage with developing knowledge and skills to provide Nurse led services including post‑op cataract and post‑op oculoplastic clinics Positively encourage others and self to develop future Nurse led services Qualifications Registered Nurse level 1 BSC degree/Diploma (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience Ophthalmic Nursing qualification Experience Ability to perform Intravitreal injection Broad range of clinical experience and the ability to translate learning into practice Previous experience of working within nurse led clinics Knowledge and Awareness Ability to perform Intravitreal injections In depth specialist knowledge within ophthalmology Skills And Abilities Participate in service development and implementation of change Ability to communicate within a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding Able to present written information in a logical manner Able to manage own caseload Knowledge of professional and NHS issues Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues in the health care setting.
