Job Description

Clinical Nurse Specialist in Ophthalmology The role includes working with a dynamic team who are passionate about Medical Retina and Macula services. The role primarily consists of providing intravitreal therapy in an outpatient environment. There is potential to develop in other Clinical Nurse Specialist services such as post‑op cataract and post‑op oculoplastic assessment and Lacrimal Clinics.

Further development opportunities include providing leadership and guidance to new and junior members of the team. Responsibilities Undertake specialist assessment of patients' ophthalmic needs and plan, implement and evaluate care delivery using clinical knowledge and skills. Provide intravitreal treatment for various eye conditions including wet age‑related macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema and retinal vein occlusions.

Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and carers. Actively engage in developing knowledge and skills to provide nurse‑led services including post‑op cataract and post‑op oculoplastic clinics. Positively encourage others and self to develop future nurse‑led services.

Qualifications Registered Nurse Level 1. BSc degree/Diploma (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience. Ophthalmic Nursing qualification.

Experience Ability to perform intravitreal injection. Broad range of clinical experience and ability to translate learning into practice. Previous experience of working within nurse‑led clinics.

Knowledge and Awareness In‑depth specialist knowledge within ophthalmology. Skills and Abilities Participate in service development and implementation of change. Ability to communicate within a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding.

Present written information in a logical manner. Manage own caseload. Knowledge of professional and NHS issues.

Develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues in the health care setting; team player. Change agent, influencer, innovator.
