Position Overview
Our client is a fast-growing Canadian Credit Union embarking on a significant transformation as it enters its next phase of growth. Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Operating Officer will lead one of the organization's most significant strategic initiatives, the comprehensive transformation of its banking technology platform. The successful candidate will oversee the implementation of a new core banking ecosystem, including core banking, lending and digital banking platforms, while leading organizational change throughout the implementation.
Following this transformation, the COO will assume responsibility for building and scaling the operational infrastructure required to support the organization's aggressive growth strategy, including new products, and increasing operational capacity.
This role is ideal for a hands-on financial services operations leader who has successfully delivered complex transformation initiatives and is driven by the opportunity to scale a modern financial institution.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of the new core banking platform and supporting technology ecosystem. This will include partnering with executive leadership, external vendors and implementation consultants to ensure successful delivery.
- Ensure operational excellence across member servicing, lending operations and transaction processing.
- Oversee the ongoing operation and optimization of core banking, mortgage and digital banking platforms and the development of appropriate operational policies, procedures and controls.
- Ensure product launches are supported by appropriate systems, workflows, reporting and compliance processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and technology and champion innovation and continuous process improvement
- Collaborate closely with executive leadership and the Board on digital operational strategy.
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience within a bank, credit union, trust company or other deposit-taking financial institution.
- Post-secondary education in Business, Finance or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience leading large-scale operational transformation, technology modernization or core banking system implementation initiatives.
- Strong understanding of banking operations, including lending, deposits, digital banking and customer servicing functions.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects involving multiple stakeholders, external vendors and implementation partners.
- Strategic yet hands-on leadership style with the ability to balance day-to-day operational execution with long-term business objectives.
Please note that at present, legal eligibility to work in Canada is a prerequisite for this role.
