Opportunity

We currently have two Business Analysts roles available within CSIRO's Information Management and Technology (IM&T) team. In this role you will work on enterprise‑scale projects, service improvement initiatives and technology lifecycle activities that support science and business outcomes. You will help define business needs, facilitate workshops, gather and analyse requirements, develop user stories and support the delivery of effective solutions.

This is a collaborative environment where your analysis, communication and problem‑solving skills will help shape business improvements and drive successful project outcomes.

High‑level duties include

  • Engage with CSIRO internal stakeholders to understand business needs, identify process improvement opportunities, and support the design of digital or technology‑enabled solutions.
  • Analyse current and proposed business processes, systems and services to identify issues, risks, benefits, dependencies and potential business impacts.
  • Develop clear business requirements, functional specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria and supporting analysis artefacts for IT/software delivery teams.
  • Contribute to the identification of business benefits, implementation considerations, cost implications and potential efficiencies associated with proposed solutions.
  • Apply structured requirements elicitation, analysis, validation and documentation techniques to support iterative or sequential project‑based delivery approaches.
  • Communicate analysis findings, requirements, options and recommendations clearly to project teams, technical specialists, stakeholders and management.

Role particulars

Location and office arrangements: All Australian capital cities with CSIRO site considered.

Salary: AU$118,102 – AU$127,808 per annum (pro rata for part‑time), plus 15.4% superannuation

Essential Criteria

  • 2+ years’ experience in a business analysis role or related discipline, coupled with relevant training and/or certification.
  • Ability to elicit, analyse and document business requirements, functional and non‑functional requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting analysis artefacts for information systems and digital solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience applying business analysis methods, tools and modelling techniques to analyse business processes, define solution requirements, and support delivery outcomes in complex environments.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to the design, implementation or enhancement of information systems, software solutions or Software‑as‑a‑Service (SaaS) platforms.
  • Ability to build productive working relationships with stakeholders and facilitate discussions to understand business needs, validate requirements, and support solution development.
  • Demonstrated experience working within iterative delivery environments, including requirements refinement, prioritisation, solution validation and support of delivery activities.
  • Ability to communicate analysis findings, recommendations and technical concepts effectively to both business and technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and commitment to, the principles of workplace diversity, equal employment opportunity, health, safety and wellbeing.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience in Design Thinking methods.
  • Proficiency in BA tools and modelling standards (e.g. Business Process Model Notation).

Eligibility

This is a security‑assessed position. Applications are open to Australian citizens who can obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Negative Vetting 1 level. Appointment is subject to provision of a national police check and may be subject to other security, medical or character requirements.
