ABOUT THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Accountant to join our Finance team in a full-time, permanent position.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, this hands-on role is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of the Club's multi-stream payroll, statutory compliance obligations, and core financial control activities. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the integrity of Melbourne Football Club's financial records and supporting the broader finance function across reporting, audit, and forecasting.

Working across the Club’s administration, AFL, AFLW and casual workforce, you will oversee payroll processing and ensure all statutory obligations are met accurately and on time. The role also contributes to the effective management of the Club’s financial records through general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations, and the preparation and lodgement of statutory obligations including BAS, Payroll Tax, WorkCover and Superannuation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • General ledger maintenance and integrations from other financial systems (payroll, CRM).
  • Month end balance sheet reconciliations including maintaining the Fixed Asset Register.
  • Prepare and process the monthly administration payroll and support salary and annual leave forecasting.
  • Process the fortnightly casual payroll, including the associated journals and reconciliations.
  • Process the football player payroll, including the associated journals and reconciliations, in support of the Senior Financial Accountant.
  • Preparation and lodgement of legal and statutory obligations, including BAS, Payroll Tax, WorkCover & Superannuation.
  • Preparation of the annual FBT return in conjunction with the Finance Manager or Senior Football Accountant.
  • Manage the financial accounting and reporting of the Red & Blue Foundation and Melbourne Sports Operation, including budgeting, accounts preparation and stakeholder reporting.
  • Assist with cashflow forecasting.
  • Assist with the annual year-end audit process.
  • Assist the Human Resources department with annual salary reports such as Workplace Gender Equality Agency reporting and Club Remuneration Survey.
  • Support the Finance Manager and Senior Football Accountant with any ad-hoc finance duties as required.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

You are a motivated and detail-oriented accounting professional with a strong foundation in financial management and a proactive approach to continuous improvement. To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Qualifications & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or a related discipline.
  • CPA or CA qualification (or working towards completion) is highly regarded.
  • A minimum of four years' experience in an accounting role

Technical Skills

  • Sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and relevant taxation legislation.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience processing and managing payroll
  • Proficiency in accounting systems, with experience in Microsoft Dynamics 365 highly regarded.
  • Experience working with CRM platforms, preferably Salesforce.
