Job Description

Acting on the instructions of our client, Studio Italia, we are hiring a full time in-house accountant to assist with their internal accounting functions.

Studio Italia is an established Australian lighting business operating across importing, wholesale and retail channels. We work with leading international lighting brands and supply products to retail customers, designers, architects, builders and commercial projects.

We are seeking an experienced and hands‑on In‑House Accountant to manage our day‑to‑day finance function and support management with accurate, timely financial information.

About the Role

Reporting directly to CFO, you will take responsibility for the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, inventory reconciliation and internal financial controls.

This role is particularly suited to an accountant with experience in an importing, wholesale, retail or inventory‑based business and strong practical knowledge of both CIN7 and Xero.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and bank reconciliations
  • Maintain accurate financial records in Xero
  • Manage and reconcile inventory transactions between CIN7 and Xero
  • Reconcile inventory, cost of goods sold, landed costs and stock adjustments
  • Process and review overseas supplier invoices, freight, customs duty, import GST and foreign currency transactions
  • Prepare supplier payment schedules and assist with foreign exchange management
  • Complete month‑end procedures and prepare monthly profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow reports
  • Prepare management reports by business location, brand and sales channel
  • Monitor customer accounts, credit limits and overdue receivables
  • Assist with budgeting, cash flow forecasting and financial performance analysis
  • Process payroll, superannuation and STP reporting
  • Prepare BAS, GST reconciliations and other statutory reporting
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and prepare relevant reconciliations
  • Support annual stocktakes and investigate stock discrepancies
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, banks and other professional advisers
  • Review and improve accounting procedures, system integrations and internal controls
  • Provide financial support and analysis to management as required

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • At least three years’ accounting experience in an importing, wholesale, retail or inventory‑based business
  • Strong hands‑on experience with both CIN7 and Xero
  • Sound knowledge of inventory accounting, landed costs and cost of goods sold
  • Experience with foreign currency transactions and overseas suppliers
  • Experience in month‑end reporting, balance sheet reconciliations and management reporting
  • Good knowledge of GST, BAS, payroll, STP and superannuation obligations
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to meet monthly deadlines
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating with management and operational teams
  • An accounting degree; CA or CPA qualification, or progress towards qualification, will be highly regarded
