Unit Summary Hamilton Health Sciences is the Ministry designated Lead Trauma Hospital for the Central South/ West region for both adult and pediatric patients. As one of the top three trauma centres in the province, the Trauma Program admits approximately 500 major trauma patients per year and provides integrated prevention, clinical, research and educational services along the entire trauma continuum through to discharge and follow up by a multidisciplinary team. The Burn Program resides within Hamilton Health Sciences a tertiary level facility that serves more than 2.3 million residents of Hamilton and Central South and Central West Ontario.

As the second busiest Burn Unit in Ontario, the Burn Unit provides highly specialized expert care to approximately 100 patients who have experienced critical and noncritical adult burns. In addition to burns the Burn unit as per American Burn Association guidelines cares for patients with other diagnoses such as frostbite and exfoliative disorders including toxic epidermal necrolysis. Position Summary Reporting to the Ontario Trauma Registry & Hamilton Health Sciences, the key accountabilities for the Trauma & Burn Research Analyst include: setting up and maintaining all logistics for the efficient running of a new burn data base and abstracting and collating data for the burn data base; and assisting in the abstracting, collating and maintenance of the data for the Trauma Registry as required.

The Trauma & Burn Research Analyst will be required to do daily visits to the hospital units where both trauma and burn patients are admitted to abstract data coordination with the trauma and burn teams, ongoing collaboration with other healthcare professionals in the form of rounds and consultations and ongoing communication with various internal departments involved in the care of trauma and burn patients. In partnership with all stakeholders the Trauma & Burn Research Data Analyst will support trauma and burn related research within the organization and the region. Schedule Work Hours Monday to Friday; days Qualifications Post Secondary education in a health related field; graduate of Health Records Administration program preferred Minimum 3 years experience in abstracting, coding (ICD-10) and data analyses Strong working knowledge of computer applications and software packages such as MS Office Strong working knowledge of Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) and Injury Severity Scoring (ISS 90,95) Strong working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology and disease process Knowledge and ability to interpret outcome measurements Working knowledge of electronic health record systems such as Sovera and Meditech Demonstrated organizational, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills Demonstrated ability for detailed quantitative and qualitative work and report writing Demonstrated ability to create concise information reports Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team Clinical experience in Trauma and /or Burns preferred Member of CHIMA preferred Experience with research proposals and REB submissions an asset Hamilton Health Sciences fosters a culture of patient and staff safety, whereby all employees are guided by our Mission, Vision, Values, and Values Based Code of Conduct.
