Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on maintaining, repairing, and installing industrial equipment and machinery within a heavy manufacturing environment. You support equipment reliability through troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and participation in installations, shutdowns, and facility upgrades while working on rotating continental shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair a wide range of industrial equipment and machinery in a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Modify, repair, install, maintain, and troubleshoot packaging and other manufacturing equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, plumbing, basic welding, and metal work issues to minimize downtime.
  • Perform equipment, line, and system installations from setup through commissioning and start-up support.
  • Carry out decommissioning of equipment and machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Execute preventive and scheduled maintenance tasks to ensure optimal equipment performance.
  • Respond to shutdowns and breakdowns, performing rapid troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Conduct detailed troubleshooting and diagnostics on mechanical and related systems.
  • Support facility upgrades and modifications, including mechanical assembly and equipment changes.
  • Provide maintenance shift coverage as required on rotating continental shifts.
  • Work with bearings, belts, pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, pneumatic cylinders, fans, airlocks, and related components.
  • Perform conveyor maintenance, including tracking belts, changing rollers, and installing mechanical splices.
  • Operate overhead cranes and handle rigging and hoisting activities safely.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings to guide installation and repair work.
  • Use personal tools and equipment to complete maintenance and repair tasks in an industrial setting.

Essential Skills

  • Registered Millwright Apprentice and/or Maintenance Technician with 35 years of experience in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Proven experience performing preventive maintenance and repairs on industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with rigging and hoisting operations in an industrial setting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including working with bearings (50 mm+ in diameter), belts, pumps, and conveyors.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, plumbing, basic welding, and metal work issues.
  • Experience with overhead crane operation in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Proficiency in conveyor maintenance, including tracking belts, changing rollers, and installing mechanical splices.
  • Ability to perform repairs on fans, airlocks, gearboxes, pneumatic cylinders, and pumps.
  • Competence in mechanical assembly and installation of industrial equipment and systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation.
  • Comfort working in hot, dusty, loud, and nontemperature-controlled environments.
  • Willingness and ability to work rotating continental shifts, including days and nights.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Possession of Working at Heights (WAH) certification.
  • Possession of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) certification.
  • Possession of WHMIS certification.
  • Completion of required 4 Steps safety training or equivalent.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hydraulics and pneumatics systems.
  • Experience in industrial construction and installation work.
  • Ability to perform basic welding and metal work as part of maintenance tasks.
  • Ownership of appropriate hand tools and equipment suitable for industrial maintenance work.
  • Attention to safety procedures and best practices in heavy industrial environments.

Work Environment

The role is based in a heavy industrial facility characterized by hot, dusty, and loud conditions in a nontemperature-controlled environment. You work on a rotating continental schedule: Week A consists of Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (approximately a 60-hour work week), and Week B consists of Wednesday and Thursday (approximately a 24-hour work week), with 8:00 a.m.8:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.8:00 a.m. shifts. Work involves regular exposure to large industrial equipment, overhead crane operation, conveyors, and other heavy machinery.

Attire should be appropriate for industrial work, including safety gear and protective equipment as required. Compensation follows straight time for all scheduled shifts, with additional compensation only when called in for unscheduled shifts.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hamilton, ON.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
