Digital Portfolio Manager

On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Digital Portfolio Manager for a 6 Month (Inside IR35) Hybrid contract based up to 3 days per week in Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle or Blackpool.

As a Portfolio Manager you will play a key role in assuring the successful delivery of a portfolio of projects and programmes that enable DWP's transformation.

Responsibilities . You will work across all aspects of portfolio management - understanding delivery trajectories, dependencies, and risks - while maintaining a clear view of the 'bigger picture' in relation to DWP strategy. . Strong collaboration will be central to your role. You will build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues across Digital & Transformation Group, Finance, Commercial, Cabinet Office, and HM Treasury, ensuring alignment and joined-up delivery. Your work will help to keep our vital services and systems running for millions of customers. . You will support compliance with cross-government control frameworks, as well as DWP internal portfolio, governance, and delivery frameworks and controls. You will ensure your portfolio of projects is well planned, prioritised, and delivered effectively. . This will include managing demand, tracking progress against roadmaps, ensuring interdependencies are identified and managed, analysing portfolio status, preparing reports for leadership, and assuring delivery of outcomes. You will support agile delivery teams to accelerate progress, resolve issues, apply effective risk management, and ensure strong governance across multiple projects. . As part of building capability, you will also contribute to strengthening the portfolio management community through professional development, coaching, and line management responsibilities.

Skills . Ensures that programme/project leads and/or service owners adhere to the agreed portfolio management approach and timetable and that they provide the appropriate information to agreed targets of timelines and accuracy. Produces reports as appropriate for portfolio governance, including making recommendations for changes to the portfolio. . Takes responsibility for the provision of support services to projects. Uses and recommends project control solutions for planning, scheduling and tracking projects. Sets up and provides detailed guidance on project management software, procedures, processes, tools and techniques. Supports programme or project control boards, project assurance teams and quality review meetings. Provides basic guidance on individual project proposals. May be involved in aspects of supporting a programme by providing a cross programme view on risk, change, quality, finance or configuration management. . Investigates problems and analyses options for new and existing services. Provides recommendations to solutions. Works with stakeholders to identify objectives, opportunities and potential benefits available.

Knowledge . Experience of tracking delivery progress across a portfolio of projects and programmes, escalating issues and resource constraints where necessary. . Proven evidence of providing analysis and clear updates to senior leadership, highlighting risks, trends, and opportunities for action. . Demonstrable experience of building, managing and influencing long-term strategic relationships with stakeholders. . Evidence of ensuring compliance with standards and governance requirements and supporting assurance activity across service teams. . Proven ability to proactively identify delivery risks and blockers using portfolio tools and data, escalating where appropriate. . Proven evidence of contributing to the development of project business cases, monitoring delivery of benefits against agreed outcomes and supporting operational managers to ensure plans and deliverables remain aligned to expectations.
