Field Technician - Safe Access

MASS is looking for a Field Technician Safe Access to join our team servicing water and wastewater infrastructure throughout South East Queensland.

This is a hands‑on field role suited to an experienced Mechanical Fitter, Boilermaker, Fabricator, or Site Installer looking to develop a career in safe access inspections, upgrades, minor repairs, and maintenance.

You will travel throughout the water and wastewater network, assessing existing access arrangements, scoping works, and delivering practical safe access solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Field Inspections & Scoping

• Inspect stairs, ladders, platforms, handrails, access covers, and other safe‑access infrastructure.
• Identify safety, condition, and maintenance issues and recommend practical solutions.
• Take site measurements, photographs, and prepare clear scope information.
• Work with engineering and project teams to develop safe and practical upgrade solutions.

Installation & Maintenance

• Carry out minor repairs, maintenance, and safe‑access upgrades.
• Install and modify stairs, platforms, handrails, ladders, access covers, and associated equipment.
• Undertake mechanical fitting, fabrication, drilling, cutting, and assembly works on site.
• Work from engineering drawings, site measurements, and work instructions.

Site Reporting

• Complete site inspection, service, and installation reports.
• Record measurements, photographs, defects, materials, and completed works.
• Identify additional works or issues discovered during site visits.
• Communicate site requirements and technical issues to engineering and project teams.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

• Maintain high WHS standards across all site activities.
• Follow MASS and customer site procedures and requirements.
• Ensure work is completed in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and relevant standards, including AS 1657 where applicable.

About You (Essential Criteria)

• Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter, Boilermaker, Fabricator, or Engineering Tradesperson.
• Practical experience in mechanical fitting, fabrication, installation, or maintenance.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Strong practical problem‑solving and mechanical skills.
• Ability to accurately measure and assess existing site conditions.
• Hands‑on, proactive approach with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with customers and project teams.
• Current driver's licence and willingness to travel throughout South East Queensland.

Desirable Criteria

• Experience with stairs, platforms, ladders, handrails, or structural steel.
• Knowledge of AS 1657.
• Water or wastewater industry experience, specifically on water authority sites.
• Working at Heights and Confined Space entry tickets/experience.
