- Level 5, $82,843 - $93,358 p.a., plus up to 17% employer superannuation
- Part-time (21.25 hrs per week), ongoing appointment
The Opportunity
The Academic Support Unit (ASU) is seeking a highly organised and technically capable Technician (Laboratory Admin) to support the effective administration, safety and day-to-day operations of Science teaching laboratories. Working within the Technical Operations team, you will coordinate a broad range of laboratory administration, WHS, purchasing, equipment, inventory, records and scheduling activities that enable the smooth delivery of practical science teaching.
This is a varied role offering the opportunity to combine your laboratory knowledge with strong administrative and organisational skills. You will work collaboratively with technical staff, academics, students and University stakeholders, providing practical advice, supporting compliance and contributing to continuous improvement across laboratory operations. You may also provide hands-on laboratory technical support as required, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys both the operational and practical aspects of a science environment.
You will
- coordinate laboratory administration, including purchasing, inventory, records, scheduling and SharePoint systems, to support efficient day-to-day operations;
- support WHS compliance across Science laboratory activities, including risk assessments, safety documentation, equipment and chemical management; and
- work collaboratively with technical staff, academics and other stakeholders, providing practical advice and contributing to continuous improvement across laboratory operations.
About you
You will be an organised, proactive and collaborative professional with experience supporting laboratory operations and a strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements. You will be comfortable balancing administrative responsibilities with practical laboratory support and working independently across competing priorities.
You will possess:
- a relevant degree, or a combination of relevant experience and education/training
- demonstrated experience providing technical support within a teaching and/or research laboratory environment, preferably in a tertiary setting
- sound knowledge of workplace health and safety practices, including risk assessments, safe operating procedures and relevant legislation
- strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively
- strong communication, interpersonal, analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and learn new systems and technologies
- advanced computer literacy, including Microsoft 365 applications, databases and electronic systems, and a current driver’s licence
