Instrumentation Engineer

Role Summary

The Instrumentation Engineer will be responsible for the design, specification and engineering of instrumentation and control systems for process plant and EPC projects, working closely with process, piping, electrical and control system teams to deliver accurate, code-compliant engineering deliverables within project schedules.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain the instrument index, I/O lists and instrument specifications.
• Prepare instrument datasheets and carry out sizing of control valves, flow elements and other field instruments.
• Prepare instrument location layouts, hook-up drawings, loop diagrams, cable schedules and junction box schedules.
• Review P&IDs and participate in P&ID reviews, HAZOP and SIL assessments as required.
• Prepare material requisitions, carry out technical bid evaluations and review vendor documents.
• Coordinate with control system vendors on DCS, PLC and Safety Instrumented System (SIS) interfaces.
• Ensure instrument selection complies with hazardous area classification requirements.
• Interface with process, piping, electrical and civil disciplines to resolve design and interface issues.
• Respond to client and consultant comments and incorporate revisions within agreed timelines.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, including ISA and IEC standards, as well as client specifications.

Qualifications and Experience

• B.E./B.Tech in Instrumentation, Electronics and Instrumentation, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of instrumentation engineering experience, preferably on EPC projects in oil and gas, petrochemical, refinery or process plant sectors.
• Working knowledge of Hexagon Smart Instrumentation (formerly SmartPlant Instrumentation / INtools) will be an advantage.
• Familiarity with IEC 61511 (functional safety) and IEC 60079 (hazardous areas).
• Sound understanding of field instruments, control valves, analysers and control system architecture.

• Good communication and coordination skills across disciplines and with vendors.
• Ability to deliver under tight schedules.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Office.
