Senior Operations Manager

The Company

Our client is a well-established, Australian-owned freight forwarding business with a strong reputation and a long history within the industry. As the business continues to grow, you’ll be reporting directly to the Managing Director, and play a key role in supporting the day-to-day running of the business while providing leadership and guidance across the team.

The Role

• Act as 2IC to the Managing Director, providing support across the business and stepping in during their absence
• Lead, mentor and support a small team of staff
• Oversee day-to-day operational and customer service activities
• Manage and develop key customer relationships and accounts
• Attend client and prospective client meetings alongside the MD, providing your freight forwarding expertise and operational insight
• Understand customer requirements and help assess how the business can best support new opportunities
• Contribute to internal discussions, business planning and brainstorming around the ongoing growth of the business
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, service levels and overall business performance
• Provide guidance and support to the wider team using your strong freight forwarding knowledge and experience

About You

• Strong experience within freight forwarding, with a solid understanding of the industry and its operations
• Previous experience across customer service, operations and/or key account management
• Experience managing or mentoring operational teams
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• The confidence to attend client meetings and contribute to conversations around operational requirements and solutions
• A commercially minded approach, with an understanding of customers and the broader business
• The ability to think strategically while still being comfortable getting involved in the day-to-day
• A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to work closely with senior leadership
• The maturity and confidence to step up and take ownership when required
