Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the Company’s Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality policies, including all responsibilities associated with the Environmental Management System (EMS), and ensure these principles are reflected in day-to-day activities.
- Escalate any environmental compliance issues, concerns or deviations to the appropriate Manager or Senior Management, including the highest level of management, either directly or through the Company’s established open-reporting channels.
- Provide technical guidance and operational support to assigned vessels, while advising and assisting the vessel’s crew in carrying out maintenance activities effectively.
- Investigate and evaluate technical matters arising from equipment failures, breakdowns, malfunctions, upgrades, modifications or improvement requirements, with the objective of ensuring long-term vessel reliability.
- Coordinate and prepare assigned vessels for dry dockings, statutory/class surveys, planned repairs and maintenance, including timely arrangement and management of spares, stores, contractors and required services.
- Ensure vessels under responsibility operate in accordance with applicable local and international legislation, regulatory requirements and the Company’s Safety Management System (SMS).
- Review and analyse vessel performance and communicate relevant findings to the Master and Chief Engineer, while ensuring operational activities remain aligned with charterparty requirements and other commercial considerations.
- Track and maintain all required certificates, surveys and operational compliance requirements applicable to each assigned vessel.
- Conduct vessel visits at ports and, where required, sail on Company vessels to assess their safety, reliability, operational efficiency and economic performance.
- During vessel visits, evaluate vessel and equipment performance and take the lead in resolving onboard matters, including technical, quality, health and safety, commercial and personnel-related issues.
- Take full ownership of identified onboard issues and ensure that corrective actions are followed through until satisfactory closure.
- Develop detailed annual budgets for assigned vessels, including routine operations, dry dockings, surveys, repairs, modifications and ad-hoc maintenance, ensuring all budgets and associated activities are prepared within stipulated timelines.
- Monitor vessel expenditure on an ongoing basis, prepare monthly budget-versus-actual variance reports, and maintain appropriate cost control against approved budgets.
- Ensure personnel reporting to the position operate in accordance with established Company policies, procedures and management-system requirements.
- Set clear expectations for direct reports, monitor and manage performance, and provide appropriate leadership, guidance and support to team members.
- Undertake any additional responsibilities or assignments as may reasonably be required by the Company.
