Job Description

About MAVI

MAVI places experienced finance and accounting professionals into senior, high-ownership roles at high-growth US companies.

We maintain a deliberately high bar on both sides of the placement. The companies we partner with are venture-backed and private equity-backed startups and SMEs building modern finance organizations, and the professionals we represent are operators with a track record of owning the numbers rather than supporting them from a distance.

The roles we place are embedded positions within the finance function itself. Our professionals work alongside founders, CEOs, and senior leadership on the work that determines whether a business can close its books with confidence and satisfy its auditors.

Our team has built and scaled finance functions at companies including Lyft, Ramp, and SoftBank. We remain closely involved throughout the relationship, from role alignment and interview preparation through onboarding, placement, and long-term career development.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Head of Accounting to own the accounting function across a portfolio of high-growth US client companies, working remotely from Brazil.

This is the senior accounting seat for each company you serve, and it remains substantively hands-on. You will be accountable for the accuracy of the financial statements, the discipline of the close, the strength of the control environment, and the readiness of each client for its audit.

Where a client has outgrown the processes that carried it this far — a close held together by one person's memory, a revenue schedule maintained outside the ledger, a reconciliation that has not been cleared in three quarters — you will be the person who rebuilds them.

The portfolio structure is the defining feature of the role. You will hold several client companies at once, each at a different stage, on a different system, with a different close calendar. The work rewards someone who can carry that context without losing the detail, and who brings a consistent standard to every engagement rather than adapting to whatever each client has been doing.

You will work directly with founders, CEOs, and the leadership teams whose decisions depend on your numbers. A significant part of the role is translating accounting information into something people outside finance can act on, and doing so before they ask for it.

What You'll Own

The Close and Financial Reporting

  • The close. Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close for each client, with full accountability for the calendar, the quality of the output, and the cycle time.
  • The financial statements. Own the preparation of the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement under US GAAP, and stand behind those numbers in front of client leadership and auditors.
  • Revenue. Own revenue recognition under ASC 606, including the schedules, the deferred revenue roll-forward, and the judgements behind them.
  • Consolidation. Own multi-entity accounting, intercompany balances, eliminations, and foreign currency translation where a client's structure requires it.
  • Reporting packages. Prepare the monthly and quarterly reporting packages and variance analysis that founders, leadership, and investors rely on.

Controls, Policy, and Audit

  • Policies and controls. Establish and maintain accounting policies, internal controls, approval workflows, and reporting standards appropriate to each client's stage, and enforce them once established.
  • Documentation. Build and maintain the close checklist, process narratives, and standard operating procedures that allow each engagement to run without depending on any single individual.
  • Audit. Lead the annual audit or review end to end, including auditor management, PBC preparation, and resolution of findings through to close-out.
  • External partners. Manage external auditors, tax advisers, and outsourced bookkeeping partners, holding each to agreed standards and deadlines.

Accounting Operations

  • The transactional cycle. Own the general ledger, AP, AR, payroll accounting, and expense processing across the portfolio, holding each to defined turnaround and accuracy standards.
  • Reconciliations. Own the balance sheet reconciliation process and the resolution of ageing items, rather than the reporting of them.
  • Cash reporting. Prepare accurate cash reporting and the rolling cash forecast, and give leadership a reliable view of position and movement.

Team, Systems, and Standard

  • Client accounting teams. Review, mentor, and raise the standard of the accounting staff and bookkeepers working beneath you at each client.
  • Finance systems. Lead ERP selection, implementation, and migration across NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, and comparable platforms, alongside AP, expense, and close-management automation.
  • A consistent standard. Bring the same close discipline, documentation, and control expectations to every engagement, rather than inheriting each client's habits.

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including direct leadership and development of accounting staff
  • Demonstrated ownership of the close and the financial statements on an independent basis, rather than contribution to someone else's
  • Strong command of US GAAP, with genuine depth in revenue recognition (ASC 606); leases (ASC 842) and stock-based compensation (ASC 718) are an advantage
  • Experience leading an audit or review, including direct management of external auditors through to resolution of findings
  • Experience with multi-entity accounting, consolidation, and intercompany elimination
  • A track record of designing accounting processes and controls from the ground up, or of taking on underperforming processes and rebuilding them
  • Demonstrated capacity to hold several companies or entities concurrently without loss of accuracy — prior experience in an outsourced accounting practice, a CPA firm, or a multi-entity group is directly relevant
  • Substantial ERP experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, or a comparable platform, alongside familiarity with modern finance tooling such as Ramp, Brex, Bill.com, Rippling, or FloQast
  • Experience working remotely with US-based leadership, auditors, and CPA firms, with the communication discipline that arrangement requires
  • Excellent written and verbal English, with the confidence to hold the room in a leadership or audit setting
  • CRC-active Contador, CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or an equivalent professional qualification strongly preferred
  • Big 4 or comparable public accounting experience followed by industry experience preferred
  • Experience serving venture-backed or PE-backed US companies, particularly from Seed through Series C, preferred
  • Direct experience carrying a first audit or an ERP implementation end to end is highly regarded
  • SaaS or recurring-revenue experience, including deferred revenue and the mechanics of ARR, is a significant advantage
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Who This Role Is For

This role is well suited to an accounting leader who wants to own the function outright, several times over, rather than administer one part of it once.

You are technically strong enough to reach a defensible conclusion without escalating it, and operationally strong enough to make sure the process behind it holds up next quarter and at the next client. You bring your own standard rather than adopting whatever you find. You are equally credible in a room with a founder, an auditor, and a junior bookkeeper.

Above all, you identify issues early, communicate them clearly to the people who need to know, and arrive with a practical recommendation rather than only a number.

Why Join Through MAVI

  • Own entire accounting functions, end to end, with direct exposure to US founders and senior leadership
  • Build the accounting infrastructure of growing companies rather than maintaining someone else's
  • Work to US GAAP with US auditors and US systems, on the standard that opens international opportunities
  • Gain breadth across several businesses, stages, and systems in a single seat
  • Progress toward Head of Finance and Fractional CFO opportunities through MAVI
  • Work remotely from Brazil in near-full overlap with the US business day

Work Arrangement

This is a fully remote role based in Brazil. You will serve several US client companies concurrently and will work directly with their founders, leadership teams, auditors, and external partners.

Core availability sits within the Brazilian business day and provides full coverage of US Eastern hours. There is no overnight requirement.
