Job Title: Commissioning & Qualification (C&Q) Engineer

Location: Limerick, Ireland

Job Type: 12-Month Contract

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Commissioning & Qualification (C&Q) Engineer to join a major pharmaceutical project based in Limerick. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a high-profile capital project, supporting the commissioning, qualification, and start-up of critical process systems within a regulated GMP manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience delivering C&Q activities across large-scale pharmaceutical or biotechnology projects, with particular expertise in Black & Clean Utilities.

Please note: Only candidates with pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and execute documentation throughout the C&Q lifecycle, including Installation Verification (IV), Functional Testing (FT), Installation Qualification (IQ), and Operational Qualification (OQ).
  • Prepare and execute Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), Site Acceptance Test (SAT), and Commissioning protocols.
  • Develop, execute, and complete IQ and OQ qualification protocols.
  • Prepare, execute, and follow up on Design Review (DR) and Design Qualification (DQ) activities.
  • Perform field walkdowns to support the transfer of systems from Construction to Commissioning.
  • Ensure the safe operation of systems prior to and during start-up, functional testing, and qualification activities.
  • Execute Installation Verification and support system start-up activities.
  • Perform functional testing to verify system performance against design specifications.
  • Manage and support change control activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare comprehensive qualification summary reports.
  • Plan, organise, and monitor daily C&Q activities while tracking progress against project schedules.
  • Coordinate with contractors and equipment vendors to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with Construction, Engineering, Automation, Quality, and Operations teams throughout all project phases.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline.

OR

  • Diploma or Certificate in a relevant discipline supported by significant industrial experience.
  • 8-10 years' experience delivering Commissioning & Qualification activities within large-scale pharmaceutical or biotechnology projects.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Black & Clean Utility systems.
  • Excellent understanding of GMP, GEP, and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Proven experience preparing and executing C&Q documentation and protocols.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary project team.
