Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to lead the day-to-day finance administration function, while supporting and developing a small finance team.

About the Role

As the Senior Bookkeeper, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day finance administration function while working closely with the Operations Manager and Management Accountant.

You'll lead and support the Bookkeeper and Payroll & Administration Officer, ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently and on time.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll be expected to not only manage the numbers, but also develop your team, improve processes and hold people accountable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and support the finance team
  • Allocate workloads and ensure key deadlines are met
  • Provide training, feedback and knowledge sharing
  • Maintain clear finance processes and procedures
  • Address performance or compliance issues when required

Financial Operations

  • Oversee banking, reconciliations and cash flow
  • Manage and review accounts payable and receivable
  • Monitor supplier and customer accounts
  • Resolve escalated account issues
  • Liaise with banks and key internal stakeholders

Reporting, Payroll & Compliance

  • Coordinate month-end processes, reconciliations and journals
  • Prepare and lodge BAS
  • Oversee weekly and monthly payroll activities
  • Support payroll tax, superannuation, workers compensation and other statutory obligations
  • Liaise with external accountants as required

Project & Asset Finance

  • Support project cost records, variations, claims and subcontractor statements
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation records
  • Manage insurance, vehicle registrations and service schedules
  • Assist with financial reporting and business improvement initiatives

About You

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical bookkeeping skills with genuine leadership capability.

You'll ideally have:

  • Significant experience in bookkeeping, accounting support or finance administration
  • Previous experience leading or supervising staff
  • Strong AP, AR, payroll and reconciliation knowledge
  • Experience with BAS and financial compliance
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and accounting software skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • The confidence to delegate, provide feedback and have difficult conversations
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach to improving processes
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

A Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or equivalent is essential.

Experience in construction, manufacturing or project-based environments, along with ERP, payroll systems or project accounting, will be highly regarded.
