General Accountant, Accounts Payable - 6 months

Our client is a self-financing, federal Crown corporation that specializes in real estate, development and attractions management located in downtown Toronto (University subway area). They are looking to bring on support for Accounts Payable & General Accounting during a busy time. The role is in office 2 days a week/WFH 3 days a week.

Our client is looking for an Accounts Payable / General Accountant to lead day-to-day AP activities while supporting the broader Corporate Accounting team.

This is a great opportunity for someone who combines strong technical accounting skills with a hands-on, solutions-focused approach. You 46;ll oversee the Accounts Payable, help strengthen AP processes and controls, and contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting and reporting activities.

Accounts Payable

• Oversee weekly supplier payments and employee expense reimbursements by EFT, cheque, and wire.
• Review and approve AP transactions, payment requests, and Master Address Book changes in JDE.
• Ensure payments comply with corporate policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Respond to and resolve internal and external payment inquiries.
• Maintain JDE sales tax tables and support sales tax reviews and annual T1204 submissions to CRA.
• Support interim and year-end audits, as well as SMT and BOD expense disclosure requirements.
• Partner with the AP Supervisor to promote consistent AP practices and best practices.

Support General Accounting

• Prepare and review corporate payment requisitions and employee reimbursements.
• Record monthly accounting transactions and support monthly variance analysis.
• Assist with budgeting and quarterly and annual financial statement disclosures.
• Provide AP back-up and cross-training within the Finance team.

What You Bring

• Post-secondary degree or diploma in business, finance, accounting, or a related field.
• 5+ years of accounts payable and accounting experience.
• Experience leading or supervising staff is an asset.
• Real estate or land development accounting experience is an asset.
• Pursuing a CPA designation is an asset.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with JD Edwards (JDE) and Insight/Hubble is an asset.
