  • Perform HVAC system design under the guidance of senior engineers for educational, institutional, multifamily, municipal, state-agency, transportation, and infrastructure projects.
  • Assist with the design of systems involving chillers, boilers, steam systems, DX systems, heating and ventilation equipment, exhaust systems, hydronic systems, and associated controls.
  • Prepare cooling and heating load calculations, equipment selections, duct and piping layouts, system sizing, engineering calculations, design narratives, reports, specifications, and construction drawings.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, plans, details, and schedules using AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Support the preparation of design documents for permitting, bidding, and construction.
  • Participate in site surveys, field investigations, existing-conditions assessments, field measurements, and construction observations.
  • Review existing drawings, equipment information, field data, codes, standards, and agency requirements to support design development.
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and other disciplines.
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate comments into project documents.
  • Assist with cost estimates, quantity take-offs, equipment schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Support construction administration activities, including the review of shop drawings, product data, equipment submittals, RFIs, and record documents.
  • Attend project meetings with clients, agencies, consultants, contractors, and internal project teams as required.
  • Conduct engineering research related to New York City codes and applicable international codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Prepare clear technical reports, calculations, meeting notes, and supporting documentation under supervision.
  • Travel within New York and New Jersey for site visits and project meetings, up to 25 - 50%.

  • Minimum of 4 years of mechanical engineering design experience, including experience with HVAC systems.
  • EIT certification is required, or must be in the examination process.
  • Familiarity with New York City projects and experience with NYCHA, PANYNJ, SCA, or other public-agency projects preferred.
  • Working knowledge of New York City codes and applicable international codes and standards, including IBC, IMC, IECC, ASHRAE, and NFPA.
  • Knowledge of HVAC fundamentals, including chillers, boilers, steam and DX systems, controls, duct sizing, pipe sizing, equipment selection, and heating and cooling load calculations.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, technical-writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, coordinated work.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, follow technical direction, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
