Telemetry Design Technician

The Role:

The Asset Operations functions form the cornerstone of service delivery to customers, protecting the environment and meeting regulatory standards as well as managing the majority of operational expenditure. The Asset Operational Control Function has responsibility for developing, implementing, and managing the activities of key technical teams and infrastructure, which provide expertise and excellence on a national basis in collaboration with, and complementary to, the Regional and Local delivery of routine front-line water and wastewater services.

The Integrated Operations team monitor the performance of the operating environment, ensuring risks to service continuity are identified and managed and that the Customer first approach is at the forefront of Asset Operations activities. This will include the performance of the asset base, optimising production and managing network integrity during interventions.

The Telemetry Design Technician delivers hands‑on technical delivery for outstation configuration, commissioning, and integration across Uisce Éireann's telemetry estate. You'll work directly with contractors, field teams, and internal stakeholders to configure systems, define communications protocols, troubleshoot on site, and ensure systems work as designed. You report to the Telemetry Design Lead.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Configure outstations and associated equipment to specification, working with design documents and contractor teams
• Define and document Modbus maps and communications requirements in consultation with contractors and engineering teams
• Troubleshoot installations on site, identify root causes, and resolve configuration or integration issues
• Commission new sites and systems, run performance tests, and handover to operations
• Create and maintain mimics (system graphics) to represent site configuration and data points
• Support site surveys and specification work ahead of new installations
• Collaborate with the Design Lead on standardising processes and configurations across the estate
• Contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing on how systems are configured and maintained
• Adhere to all HSQE plans, policies and procedures.
• Responsible for monitoring and reporting KPIs for processes over which they have ownership.

General Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaboration with key internal stakeholders across the UÉ business.
• Responsible for promoting and delivering health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours and delivering health and safety objectives and requirements to the highest industry standards.
• Support the delivery of the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme, driving results required within the Directorate and supporting organisation‑wide objectives.
• Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with Uisce Éireann’s Information Security policies, standards, processes and controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of UÉ business information, and delivery of critical services, in accordance with the NIS Directive and any other relevant cybersecurity regulation
• Other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• Relevant third level qualification and or accreditation is desirable and or relevant experience
• A minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience require. Experience in the water, utilities or similar industries is desirable
• We work better together - ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships with key stakeholders internally and externally
• Technical knowledge in SCADA, PLC programming, and industrial systems is essential. Telemetry-specific experience is not required.
• Full, clean and valid Irish category B driving licence is minimum requirement. Additional Driving License categories an advantage. A clean driving licence is defined as meaning that the applicant has not been convicted of an offence under the Road Traffic Acts (other than an offence for which the penalty is the imposition of penalty points).
• Proven track record with dealing with complex issues, proactively and in a timely fashion along with the ability to communicate information to others

• Strong analytical skills and ability to identify and analyse problems and potential improvements, and propose and implement solutions
• Demonstrate adaptability and the ability to change focus and direction in line with business strategy and requirements
• We aim high - proactively identifying new areas of improvement and using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job
