What Youll Be Doing (position summary):

The DevOps Consultant is responsible for leading the technical design, development, and integration of cross-functional, multi-platform application systems and providing enhancements to existing technologies. This role works on complex issues involving one or more technical areas, mentors employees, and performs tasks of advanced technical depth and breadth. The incumbent collaborates with developers, architects, and infrastructure specialists to gather requirements and conduct research to evaluate the application of new and emerging tools and techniques.

The role identifies patterns and best practices to consider in technology proposals while anticipating long-term business issues and devises new methods and procedures using strong analytic and inductive thinking, developing project plans based on appropriate standards and methodology.

JOB DIMENSIONS:

Experience: 7+ years of experience:

• Design, develop, and maintain build and automated code deployment systems.
• Deploy Java EE and Java applications on UNIX/Linux, RedHat JBoss EAP, and RedHat OpenShift.
• Install, configure, manage, API microservices in Development and System Integration Environments running on Unix/Linux platform.
• Install, configure, manage, and administer RedHat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform.
• Develop scripts of moderate complexity and scope, working with basic application systems designs and specifications and utilizing standard procedures and techniques.
• Define, build, and deploy Docker Container Images.
• Provide on-call support to ensure rapid recovery of application failures and participate in the coordination of Production implementations.
• Participate in post-implementation reviews by providing recommendations for improving application development and deployment processes.
• Maintain automated continuous integration and continuous delivery systems using Jenkins, Velocity & GitHub Actions
• Define and maintain version control strategy in applications using Git and SVN.
• Work closely with Project Management and QA/PTE/Production teams on defining deployment strategy to UAT/PTE/PROD environments.
• Write documentation describing build, deployment, and configuration processes.
• Collaborate with Performance Test team to identify performance-related issues and opportunities for tuning enhancements.
• Drive, design, develop, implement, and maintain deployment automation from code check-in to production.
• Promote an optimized and simplified lifecycle experience for internal/external partners throughout the deployment pipeline.
• Collaborate with teams using Agile and DevOps principles, with a focus on cultural and people change management.
• Continuously improve software engineering practices within the team, utilizing a passion for automation technology.
• Challenge the status quo and seek opportunities to improve and optimize the delivery process.
• Increase production monitoring and infrastructure automation capabilities.
• Collaborates with application development, quality assurance, operations, infrastructure, and business partners across various technology groups to deliver high quality products.
• Works closely with project-related and regression test-related environment teams to support successful project delivery.
• Partners with Performance Test teams, Project Management, and QA/PTE/Production teams on deployment and performance tuning initiatives.
• Scope includes technical leadership and mentorship within the Shared Platform Technology team.
• Responsible for supporting multiple environments and platforms, including UNIX/Linux, RedHat JBoss EAP, RedHat OpenShift, and related middleware technologies.
• Provides guidance and support to project and regression test environment teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Advisory role in optimizing build, deployment, and automation processes across the business unit.

Who You Are (skills/qualifications):

Must Have Skills:

• 7+ years of experience in the IT industry, with a preferred background in Java development and Middleware administration.
• Experience managing highly available RedHat JBoss EAP services, Solace or Kafka Event-Driven services, Apache HTTP servers, IBM MQ Servers, DataGrid, Redis and RedHat OpenShift.
• Strong understanding of Java Virtual Machine configuration and tuning parameters.
• In-depth knowledge of DevOps concepts, principles, and DevOpsCI/CD toolsets (preferably Jenkins pipelines).
• Proficient in UNIX operating systems (Solaris, Linux), UNIX shell scripting (ksh, bash), and Python/Jython scripting.
• Experience with application build tools (Ant, Maven), networks, Load Balancers, Firewalls, and version control systems (Subversion/Git).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to collaborate across diverse teams and functions.
• Adaptability to evolving technologies and changing business needs.
