Role Title: Associate Director, Loyalty Platforms
Position Summary:
- We are seeking a highly motivated and engaged technology leader to serve as Associate Director for the Marriott Loyalty organization. This role provides leadership and oversight for a team of more than 75 professionals, including Senior Managers, Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Engineers, supporting multiple applications that power Marriotts Customer and Loyalty capabilities
- The ideal candidate brings leadership experience, deep application development, strong technical judgment, and the ability to guide product & engineering teams across Salesforce Applications, API, integration, and cloud-native platforms. The Associate Director partners closely with product owners, architects, business stakeholders, and technology teams to define solutions that align with enterprise standards and deliver measurable business value.
- Functions as a technical product leader, delivery partner, and people leader to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and with high quality. Promotes excellence in product, engineering, manages team performance and capacity, and drives consistency across application development practices, delivery processes, and production support expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
35% Technical Leadership & Delivery:
Platform Engineering & Operations:
- Oversee a production grade platform on AWS using Docker, Kubernetes, service mesh, secrets management, and infrastructure as code. Set and meet SLOs/SLAs, DORA targets, and performance budgets (p95/p99 latency, throughput). Lead incident response, DR/BCP, and root cause/Problem Management.
Oversee custom development in Salesforce Application (Apex, LWC, Visualforce, SOQL) and integrations with platform services and third parties. Enforce best practices around governor limits, security model, packaging, test coverage, and release automation (Salesforce DX, Copado/Gearset).
Governance & Risk:
- Ensure compliance with IT governance, data privacy, and InfoSec standards. Maintain a healthy balance of business velocity vs. operational risk, with early risk surfacing and mitigation plans.
Vendor/Service Provider Management:
- Lead managed services and partner teams: SLAs, SOWs, and outcome based metrics; verify delivery and continuous improvement align with the spirit and letter of agreements.
- Drive project reviews, status reporting, and stakeholder communication.
- Supports the broader IT organization by driving continuous improvement, operational stability, and scalable engineering solutions
- Supports forward looking capacity planning and targets reduction in ramp up time for new initiatives/squads
25% Product Strategy & Roadmap:
Outcome Driven Roadmap Ownership:
- Translate business strategy (e.g., loyalty growth, member experience, partner integrations) into measurable OKRs, epics, and prioritized backlogs across platform and Salesforce products.Influencing technology strategy by providing strategic advice, be a trusted advisor to discipline partners
Discovery & Requirements:
- Facilitate discovery with stakeholders; quantify technical complexity and trade offs to set realistic scope and sequencing.
Experience & Adoption:
- Champion end user and developer experience. Shape developer portal content, sandbox strategy, and reusable patterns/APIs to accelerate adoption and reduce time to first value.
Delivery Orchestration:
- Run Agile at scale (sprint planning, reviews, demos, retros). Coordinate cross team dependencies, integration testing, and release calendars across channels and backend systems.
Value Realization:
- Build business cases; define success metrics (adoption, NPS/CSAT, cost to serve, revenue lift) and report progress to executive stakeholders with crisp, data backed storytelling.
40% People Leadership & Finance:
Team Leadership & Talent:
- Lead and grow a high performing, inclusive team (onshore/offshore). Set goals, coach, mentor, and create career paths. Foster psychological safety and continuous learning.
Capacity, Budget & Vendor Spend:
- Own capacity planning, workforce mix. Forecast and optimize cloud/SaaS licenses, environments, and run costs; manage variance to plan and investment ROI.
Culture & Ways of Working:
- Model excellence in ethics, integrity, and change leadership. Drive adoption of operating model improvements and measurable process maturity gains.
Qualifications Skills & Experience:
Must have:
- 15+ years in software engineering with 5+ years leading platform or application engineering teams; proven delivery across enterprise scale integrations and high throughput systems.
- Direct management of Engineering Managers, Software developers, Scrum Masters, Technical Architects & Product Owners across multiple applications, including coaching, prioritization, delivery oversight, and performance management
- Strong understanding of API platforms,back-end services, database and networking
components of full stack infrastructure. Relevant experience in systems integration and development, package analysis and implementation
- Experience & Understanding of DevOps/SRE practices: CI/CD, automated testing, release management, observability (logs/metrics/tracing), capacity/performance engineering, incident & problem management.
Nice to have:
- Prior delivery in Loyalty/CRM domains and eventdriven architectures for member lifecycle and partner ecosystems.
- Salesforce functional and engineering expertise,including Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Visualforce, SOQL, packaging, and platform performance optimization. The ability to provide technical leadership and architectural guidance across these areas will be a big plus
- Experience with IT outsourcing and a product based operating model.
- Experience with microservices architectures, Java/Spring Boot, Kafka, NoSQL/SQL, Docker/Kubernetes, microservices, GraphQL/REST.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- ITIL/Lean/Six Sigma (nice to have) for service and process maturity.
