Job Description
Surfacing Contractors Australia is a proudly Australian-owned company operating in the commercial landscaping sector. We work with a wide range of clients including Government bodies, schools, major construction companies, and landscape builders across the country. Due to continued growth, we are looking for a full-time Estimator to join our Adelaide team based in Hindmarsh.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-focused Estimator to support our estimating team across a wide range of surfacing and civil projects.
This role will involve reviewing project briefs, interpreting plans, completing take-offs, building accurate cost estimates and assisting with the preparation of professional tender and quotation packages. You will work closely with the Senior Estimator and internal project teams to ensure estimates are accurate, commercially sound and aligned with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret project briefs, site notes, tender documentation and construction drawings.
- Read and measure from architectural, civil and landscape plans.
- Complete accurate take-offs for surfacing, softfall, sporting surfaces, synthetic turf, permeable surfacing and minor civil works.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, rate build-ups and Bills of Quantities.
- Assist with preparing quotation and tender documentation.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing.
- Work with the Senior Estimator to clarify scope, methodology and project requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of estimates, pricing and project information.
- Support the broader team with estimating and project administration as required.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Previous experience as an Estimator within civil construction, landscaping, surfacing, asphalt, concrete, playgrounds, sports surfaces or a related industry.
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction, civil, architectural and landscape plans.
- Experience completing take-offs and preparing accurate cost estimates.
- High attention to detail and strong numerical skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating/take-off software such as Bluebeam, CostX or similar.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A practical understanding of construction methodology, site conditions and project delivery.
- A qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline will be highly regarded, but is not essential for the right candidate.
