The Opportunity
We are supporting a leading public sector organisation in the appointment of an experienced Senior GIS Technician/Analyst to play a key role in the modernisation of enterprise GIS capabilities.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape the organisation's GIS strategy by improving spatial data management, analytics, governance, mapping, dashboards and location intelligence capabilities. You will work closely with internal ICT and data teams, government technology partners, external suppliers and business stakeholders to deliver enterprise-scale GIS solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess existing GIS platforms, spatial databases, data models, metadata, integrations and governance frameworks.
- Support the development and implementation of the organisation's GIS strategy aligned with wider digital transformation objectives.
- Improve the quality, consistency, governance and management of enterprise spatial datasets.
- Provide technical leadership across GIS application development, configuration, integrations and automation.
- Design and develop GIS data models, spatial analytics, web mapping solutions, dashboards and reporting capabilities.
- Develop and optimise GIS data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes and system integrations.
- Deliver location intelligence solutions that support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with internal teams, vendors and technical specialists throughout project delivery.
- Ensure GIS solutions comply with security, governance and public sector standards.
- Produce high-quality technical documentation including architecture, data models, workflows and operational procedures.
- Deliver workshops, demonstrations, training sessions and knowledge transfer.
- Identify technical risks and provide recommendations for continual improvement.
- Attend weekly project meetings and provide progress updates on milestones, risks and deliverables.
- Minimum 7 years' commercial experience working with GIS technologies and enterprise GIS solutions.
- Strong knowledge of GIS principles, architecture and geospatial technologies.
- Experience developing, implementing and supporting enterprise GIS environments.
- Experience with GIS data modelling, spatial databases, metadata management and data governance.
- Strong experience delivering spatial analytics, cartography, mapping, dashboards and reporting solutions.
- Experience integrating GIS platforms with business systems, APIs, cloud services and external data sources.
- Strong experience working with enterprise databases including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostGIS or MySQL.
- Experience developing and maintaining GIS data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes and automation workflows.
- Strong understanding of spatial data quality, transformation, optimisation and validation.
- Experience developing interactive web maps, dashboards and location intelligence solutions.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Experience producing technical documentation, governance documentation and implementation standards.
- Experience working within secure, regulated or public sector environments.
- ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise Administration or ArcGIS Developer certification.
- GISP, CGeog or recognised GIS qualification.
- Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle or database certification.
- DAMA, DMBOK or other data governance certification.
- Previous experience within government or public sector organisations.
