About the UN Global Compact Network UK:

We are a dynamic multi-stakeholder initiative, dedicated to connecting UK companies to the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest responsible business initiative. The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, rooted in UN treaties, provide a robust foundation and comprehensive framework for corporate sustainability and business action on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our mission is to champion sustainability leadership to create a world we want to live and do business in, by inspiring ambition, enabling impactful action, and collaborating to reshape the business environment for the better.

The UN Global Compact Network UK has over 900 participating companies, with a team of 26 people.

Our work is guided by the core values of the UN – Integrity, Respect for Diversity, and Professionalism – alongside nine additional values and behaviours of the UN Global Compact which can be found here. During a recent review, the team described our workplace as friendly, inclusive, supportive, passionate, and hard‑working.

Who we are looking for:

Must-haves

  • Business development experience: Experience in consultative sales, business development, or growth roles within professional services, sustainability advisory, or a corporate commercial function, with a track record of managing sales cycles and long-term account relationships.
  • Sustainability expertise: Knowledge of corporate sustainability, with the credibility to engage C‑suite and senior business leaders and translate sustainability topics into compelling business propositions.
  • Communication and external presence: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to present to senior audiences, lead external sessions, and represent the organisation credibly at events and in partner relationships.
  • Data, analytics, and reporting: Comfortable working in Salesforce and Excel, with high standards for pipeline hygiene, data accuracy, and the ability to produce clear growth reports and forecasts for senior leadership.
  • People management: Experience line managing and developing individuals in a target-driven environment, with an inclusive and motivating leadership style.
  • Comfort with ambiguity: Able to work effectively under ambiguity and in less‑than‑perfect conditions — making progress with incomplete information and evolving priorities, and identifying opportunities to improve ways of working in line with organisational goals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Marketing strategy and execution: Experience developing and executing lead‑generating marketing strategies through digital channels, content marketing, and event‑based outreach.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills, able to build buy‑in internally and externally.
  • Comfort in managing multiple priorities across strategy, outreach, marketing, and people management in a fast‑paced environment.

Drive strategic outreach to engage C‑suite and sustainability leaders at prospective member companies, articulating the case for participation compellingly and with industry understanding.
  • Deploy the outreach approach across the team, building and maintaining a priority action plan for the prospect pipeline that translates strategy into clear, sequenced action and targets. Use Salesforce to produce regular pipeline reports, track KPIs, and provide growth updates and forecasting to senior leadership.
  • Produce and present regular growth performance reports using Excel and Salesforce, including pipeline analysis, conversion metrics, lead source tracking, and initial revenue forecasting. Translate data into clear insights and actionable recommendations for the Director of Participant Engagement and wider leadership.

  • Cultivate and manage strategic partnerships with business associations, chambers of commerce, and sector bodies to extend the Network’s reach. Represent the organisation at senior‑level events and conferences, generating high‑quality leads and raising the Network’s profile with key audiences.
  • Line manage two Outreach Managers, a coordinator, providing clear direction, regular one‑to‑ones, performance management, and professional development support to build a high‑performing growth team.
  • Set clear individual and team objectives aligned to the overall growth strategy, tracking progress against targets and KPIs and holding regular pipeline reviews with direct reports to ensure accountability and quality.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, supporting continuous improvement of outreach and marketing practices, and contributing constructively to the wider Participant Engagement team.
