What Youll Be Doing (position summary):
The Junior Software Development Engineer (SDE) is responsible for owning the complete software development lifecycle for ASG Technologies payment processing systems. This role is critical in driving technical excellence, delivering innovative solutions, and ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of payment infrastructure. The Junior SDE will collaborate with cross-functional teams, set technical standards, and mentor junior engineers to support the organizations strategic objectives

How Youll Succeed (responsibilities):
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code across the full stack, with an emphasis on backend services and payment processing workflows.
- Participate in technical design discussions, contributing ideas and asking questions to deepen understanding of system architecture and business requirements.
- Implement unit and integration, and end-to-end tests;develop an understanding of end-to-end testing strategies and quality standards.
- Support CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, and production monitoring; participate in on-call rotations and incident response.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks.
- Contribute to the development of secure, compliant payment processing systems.
- Support the implementation of transaction monitoring and fraud detection capabilities.
- Assist in integrating with third-party payment gateways and financial services platforms.
- Develop awareness of payment industry standards (PCI-DSS, PSD2) and apply security-conscious development practices.
- Use AI-powered development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, AI code review assistants) effectively to improve personal productivity and code quality.
- Develop a working understanding of how AI/ML capabilities (fraud detection, anomaly detection) are integrated into payment systems.
- Stay curious about emerging AI technologies and their applicability to your work; surface learnings to the team.
- Actively participate in code reviews both receiving feedback and, over time, reviewing peers' work.
- Engage with cross-functional team members (Product, QA, DevOps) to understand requirements and deliver solutions collaboratively.
- Take ownership of assigned tasks with a bias toward asking questions early and communicating blockers promptly.
- Pursue continuous learning in areas relevant to the team's technology stack and domain.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Work closely with senior engineers and tech leads who provide day-to-day technical guidance and code review feedback.
- Collaborate with QA Engineers to understand test requirements and ensure features are testable and well-validated.
- Engage with DevOps/Platform teams to understand deployment processes and infrastructure tooling.
- Interact with Product Management to clarify feature requirements and understand business context.
- Coordinate with external vendors and third-party processors as needed for integration tasks, under guidance from senior engineers.

- This role operates as an individual contributor executing assigned deliverables As an L5 SDE, this job has the authority to recommend changes to business processes in order to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
JOB DIMENSIONS:
- Scope: Contributes to the software development lifecycle for payment processing systems; works on assigned features and components with increasing independence over time.
- Impact: Code and features contributed directly support systems handling high-volume payment transactions.
- Mentorship: Receives coaching and mentorship from senior engineers; no formal mentorship responsibilities at this level.
- Budget / Headcount: No direct budget or headcount responsibility; individual contributor role.

Who You Are (skills/qualifications):
Must Have Skills:
- 3+ years of professional software development experience, or a strong academic/project portfolio demonstrating equivalent capability.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Java, C#, Go, or similar); genuine willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and core computer science fundamentals.
- Foundational knowledge of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL); understanding of SQL and basic data modeling.
- Familiarity with RESTful API design and consumption.
- Working knowledge of Git and collaborative development workflows (branching, pull requests, code reviews).
- Exposure to cloud computing concepts and at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP); hands-on experience is an asset.
- Familiarity with containerization concepts (Docker) and basic CI/CD principles.
- Understanding of core software design principles (SOLID, DRY, KISS) and ability to apply them with guidance.
- Security-aware development mindset; understanding of common vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top 10).
- Comfortable using AI-powered development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) and able to evaluate generated output critically.
- Strong communication skills; ability to ask effective questions, articulate technical problems, and document work clearly.
Good to have Skills:
- Any exposure to payment processing, financial services, or e-commerce systems.
- Awareness of PCI-DSS, PSD2, or other payment/financial industry standards.
- Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis).
- Familiarity with message queuing systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ) or event-driven architectures.
- Academic or personal project experience with AI/ML concepts or integration of ML models.
- Participation in open-source projects, hackathons, or coding competitions.
