This is a wonderful opportunity to join a young, dynamic, successful finance team as the Accounting Manager for Peninsula Employment Services Limited (PES). Please note that this is an on-site position based in Downtown Toronto.

Part of the Peninsula Group based in UK, PES is a provider of external human resources solutions, including employment relations advice, health and safety advice and legal support, to small and medium-sized businesses located throughout Canada. You will lead and manage the accounting team including accounts payable, intermediate accountant and senior accountant.

Success in this role requires you to be methodical, well organized, and have great attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations to accurate and timely verification of the accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Maintain and improve internal accounting controls and financial procedures.
  • Monitor compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.
  • Coordinate annual audit and work with external auditors.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations including bank, credit card, prepaid expenses, and monthly accruals, investigating any discrepancies and resolving differences.
  • Assist in developing annual budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis.
  • Analyse financial performance and provide recommendations to senior management.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff through coaching and performance management.
  • Support cash flow management and financial planning activities.
  • Implement process improvements and accounting system enhancements to increase efficiency.
  • Prepare and file monthly HST remittances.
  • Work with Unity billing platform, Salesforce, and Dimensions general ledger.
  • Ensure that the goals of cash management of the company are met.
  • Collaborate with the Finance and Accounting team to ensure alignment between month-end close, cash requirements, and client base reconciliation.
  • Participate in ad hoc financial or operational projects as needed.

Skills and experience required:

  • 5+ years of accounting experience.
  • CPA designation is required
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles including IFRS and ASPE.
  • Experience with ERP systems and accounting software.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • People management or mentoring experience
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
  • Able to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrates initiative, proactiveness, and ownership of the role.
