Senior Python Software Developer

The Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Senior Python Software Developer to join its Risk Technology team. The department is driving a significant digital transformation programme, modernising its technology landscape and expanding its data-driven capabilities.

The successful candidate will bring extensive experience designing, developing, and maintaining software applications, tools, and services that enhance business capabilities and improve operational efficiency. You will work closely with business stakeholders to gather requirements, translate them into technical solutions, and deliver scalable, high-quality applications.

This position reports to the Executive Director of Risk Technology.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyse business requirements and create technical specifications for applications.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance scalable Python applications.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, including code changes, application workflows, definitions, and troubleshooting guides.
• Ensure appropriate source control, code repository management, and development best practices.
• Participate in testing, quality assurance, and code reviews to ensure high-quality software delivery.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve defects while optimising application performance.
• Monitor application performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, product managers, and technical teams to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions.
• Work closely with solution architects, database administrators, and cybersecurity teams to support application architecture and backend functionality.
• Partner with UI/UX designers and front-end developers to deliver intuitive, high-performing user experiences.
• Coordinate with wider technology teams to integrate applications within the broader enterprise ecosystem.
• Participate in agile ceremonies, planning sessions, and development meetings to align priorities and share knowledge across the team.

Skills & Experience

• 8+ years' experience in software development using the required technologies.
• Hands-on experience with Python web frameworks such such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI.
• Strong SQL skills with experience performing data analysis and writing complex queries.
• Familiarity with Azure Databricks, including PySpark, notebooks, Git integration, job workflows, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog, is desirable.
• Experience working within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem, including services such as Azure Functions, App Service, and Containers.
• Previous experience within financial services, particularly in Risk Technology, would be advantageous.
