Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chief Medical Scientist, the successful candidate will participate in the development and maintenance of the ISO 15189 quality management system and contribute to the Total Quality Improvement of the department. The role involves all functions of a histopathology laboratory, including cut‑up/dissection, embedding, microtomy (manual and automatic), routine and special stains, and the implementation of new methods.
Qualifications
Education
- Holder of Bachelor’s degree – at least 5 years’ experience as a Basic Grade Medical Scientist OR
- Holder of Master’s degree – at least 2 years’ experience as Senior Medical Scientist specifically in a working medical Histology laboratory
AND
- Candidates must be fully registered to practice as a Medical Scientist with CORU or a Biomedical Scientist with HCPC.
Professional Experience
- 5 years’ experience specifically in a working medical Histology lab
- Extensive experience of scientific work in the Histology laboratory, embedding, microtomy (manual and automatic) and routine and special stains, and specifically in Dissection & Cut‑Up
Skills and Abilities
- Strong work ethic; capable of independent work with a meticulous attention to detail and proactive in seeking assistance when necessary
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven team player who enjoys working with and supporting a close‑knit team of professionals
