Job Description

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead one or more cross‑functional squads within the SAP domain, owning delivery outcomes, team health, and engineering quality across a more complex or ambiguous problem space.
  • Partner with Product Management counterparts to maintain a healthy backlog, align on priorities, and sequence delivery in a sustainable and high‑impact way.
  • Own the performance and development of direct reports – set clear expectations, run structured 1:1s, provide timely feedback, and build individual growth plans aligned to career goals.
  • Manage a broad stakeholder group, including escalating and resolving delivery risks, navigating competing demands across teams, and maintaining alignment across functions.
  • Drive engineering excellence within squads: champion modern practices such as TDD, CI/CD, trunk‑based development, and sound software design patterns.
  • Contribute to cross‑team technical decisions in collaboration with Principal/Staff Engineers and the Senior Engineering Manager, particularly on non‑functional requirements, architecture, and tooling.
  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks across skills, processes and tooling, driving improvements at squad and domain level.
  • Develop working knowledge of the SAP platform sufficient to guide delivery decisions, assess technical complexity, participate in hiring, onboarding, and capability building for the SAP engineering function.
  • Monitor delivery metrics, ensure transparency of progress and risk, and drive continuous improvement in how squads operate.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a technical leadership role with direct people management responsibility, including performance and development conversations.
  • Familiarity with, or demonstrated ability to develop fluency in, enterprise platforms such as SAP – prior SAP experience is advantageous but not essential; experience transitioning enterprise platforms to cloud platforms, especially AWS, is particularly valuable.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate across a complex or multi‑squad delivery environment, managing competing priorities and cross‑team dependencies.
  • Experience developing engineers and/or team leads through structured feedback, coaching, and career conversations.
  • Ability to manage and influence a broad stakeholder set beyond the immediate squad, with clear and proactive communication of delivery risk.
  • Solid grounding in modern engineering practices: CI/CD, testing frameworks, software design patterns, and DevOps tooling.
  • Comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy in ambiguous or undefined problem spaces.
  • Strong communication skills – able to translate between technical and non‑technical audiences at pace.

Benefits

  • Learn from industry experts, experienced leaders, and on‑the‑job opportunities.
  • Access parental leave: 14 weeks of paid leave for primary carers and 6 weeks for secondary carers plus superannuation.
  • Work with flexibility: hybrid workplace, balancing time in the office with remote work.
  • Flexi leave days: one extra paid leave day per quarter for what makes you happy.
  • Take a floating public holiday: acknowledge a significant day your way with family and friends.
  • Be rewarded: celebrate wins and recognise great performance with an accessible Reward and Recognition program.

As an organisation, we celebrate diversity and welcome all people, regardless of family responsibilities, ethnicity, faith, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.
