Overview

TMX Group is seeking an experienced Manager, Compensation to lead compensation advisory work in a complex, high-stakes environment. The role focuses on Canadian legislation compliance (including Pay Equity across Federal, Ontario, and Quebec) and evolving Pay Transparency requirements. The manager acts as a senior compensation consultant to assigned business units, mentors the Total Rewards team, and partners with senior leaders to deliver measurable, scalable compensation solutions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Leadership & People Development: Provide direct leadership to a Compensation Partner/Analyst, oversee their professional development, performance, and daily deliverables; set expectations, drive accountability, and cultivate a high-performing team culture.
  • Capability Building: Mentor and coach to elevate compensation advisory and analytical capabilities, delivering high-quality, actionable insights to the business.
  • Workload Management: Manage team capacity, prioritize workstreams, and ensure alignment with the broader HR strategy.
  • Talent Development: Identify development opportunities for each team member and build bench strength within the compensation function.
  • Senior Compensation Consulting: Lead complex and sensitive matters for assigned business units, including offer recommendations, job leveling, restructuring, and organizational design.
  • Solution Design: Partner with HRBPs and leaders to co-create compensation solutions balancing business objectives, market competitiveness, and fiscal responsibility; ensure alignment with TMX pay philosophy.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with Talent Acquisition, Finance, HR Technology, and business leaders to execute salary planning, bonus accruals, and financial forecasting across portfolios.
  • Compensation Literacy: Lead education sessions to build compensation literacy and program engagement among employees, managers, and HRBPs.
  • Market Intelligence & Compliance: Lead annual market survey processes, refine strategy, and translate data into actionable insights.
  • Pay Equity & Pay Transparency: Serve as TMX subject matter expert for Canadian pay equity compliance (Federal, Ontario, Quebec) and advise on disclosures and required actions; monitor provincial and federal pay transparency legislation.
  • Projects & Portfolio Stewardship: Own compensation outcomes for regional and business-unit portfolios; independently lead regional and unit-specific compensation projects from scoping to delivery.

Skills & Experience

  • Must-Haves:
    • 7+ years of progressive experience in compensation in a business partner or advisory capacity, with direct people leadership experience (2–3 years mentoring or managing employees).
    • Proven track record in managing complex cross-functional projects and advising senior leaders on compensation matters (e.g., restructuring, STIP design, job leveling, organizational design).
    • Working knowledge of Canadian pay equity legislation (Federal, Ontario, Quebec) and provincial pay transparency requirements.
    • Deep expertise in total rewards principles, job evaluation methodologies, and compensation program design.
    • Advanced proficiency in Workday Compensation (including incentive plan configuration).
    • Analytical rigor with ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines; strong business and commercial acumen.
    • Adaptability to operate in a fast-changing environment with sound judgment.
    • Advanced MS Excel/Google Sheets skills and project management framework experience.
    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related field.
  • Nice-to-Haves:
    • Experience with Workday Advanced Compensation modules.
    • Sales compensation design and management experience.
    • Designations such as CCP or CHRP/CHRL (completion or progress).

Other Details

  • Salary Range: 110,000 CAD – 130,000 CAD per year. The range is a guideline; actual offer depends on knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Location & Work Arrangement: Hybrid role (2–3 days/week in the Toronto office).
  • Work Authorization: Not sponsoring work permits; candidate must be authorized to work in the country where the position is located.
