Overview

Lab Patient Technician - Part Time (Float) in Simcoe, ON. This on-site role at LifeLabs supports patient care through the specimen collection process and related testing activities. LifeLabs is a leading provider of laboratory diagnostic information and health connectivity systems, with emphasis on accurate, accessible diagnostic services.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, request required information, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients follow the test protocol prior to collection.
  • Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect Holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
  • Perform special test collections (e.g., medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, clinical trials) and complete related documentation.
  • Maintain client relationships, respond to inquiries, and follow up on requests.
  • Complete data entry of patient demographics, requisition information, and other data related to processing test results.
  • Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

What you will bring to the role

  • Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent (preferred).
  • Phlebotomy experience (asset).
  • ECG training or experience (asset).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
  • Strong customer/patient service orientation and the ability to relate to patients and clients, even in stressful situations.
  • Strong empathy, adaptability to change, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.
