Job Description

Location: Remote (India) Employment type: Full-time Working days: Monday–Saturday Experience: 2+ years (early-stage startup experience strongly preferred) CTC: as per industry standards (with a 6-month structured probation period)

Share At Door Step is on a simple mission: make sure every reusable item finds someone who needs it. Our platform makes donating preloved goods - clothes, toys, furniture, electronics and more - effortless: people book a doorstep pickup, our algorithm matches each donation to the right NGO, and our logistics partners handle the rest.

We're bootstrapped and profit-with-purpose, run by a lean, tight-knit team that cares as much about craft as impact.

We hire builders who span the whole stack, move fast, and own their work end-to-end. We care about what you can build, not where you went to school. This is a startup, which means real deadlines and real hustle - we ship quickly, commit to timelines, and hold ourselves to them. There's a lot of work ahead of us. Come build it with us.

About the role

We're hiring a Product Engineer to maintain, test and build new features across our region-specific donation-pickup websites and the backend systems that drive order fulfillment.

This is a full-spectrum role. You won't be siloed into one layer - you'll work across backend, frontend, internal tooling and automation, take ideas from concept to production, and own them end-to-end. As you ramp up, you'll grow into independently owning major modules of the product.

And because this is a small team, you'll see your work reach real people - real donations, picked up at real doorsteps - the same week you ship it.

It also means working at startup pace. We set deadlines and we hit them. You'll juggle multiple priorities, make calls without perfect information, and ship on time without dropping quality. If you do your best work under a bit of pressure and take real pride in meeting commitments, you'll feel at home here.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain and improve our region-specific donation-pickup websites and the backend systems behind order fulfillment.
  • Build new features end-to-end - from backend logic to frontend implementation.
  • Write and maintain internal tooling and automations that make our operations smoother and our team faster.
  • Own the quality of your own work: write and maintain unit tests for the features you build, rather than relying on others to catch issues for you.
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and root-cause issues across the stack, often working independently.
  • Take responsibility for the reliability and uptime of what you build - these are live sites processing real donations, so things break and need fixing.
  • Gradually take full ownership of major modules of the product as you ramp up.
  • Coordinate closely with multiple stakeholders - engineering, operations, logistics and others - to make sure what you build solves the right problem.

Who You Are

You're a builder who's comfortable owning things end-to-end and figuring out how systems should work - not just implementing tickets. You'll likely have:

  • 2+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Ideally, time on an early-stage startup team where you wore many hats - building features, fixing production issues, setting up tooling - without a large team or rigid process to lean on. You know what it's like to own outcomes in a small, fast-moving environment.
  • Comfort working across the stack - backend, frontend, tooling and automation.
  • Working knowledge of PHP (we run on WordPress + WooCommerce + Apache httpd).
  • Familiarity with MySQL/MariaDB and writing/reading basic SQL.
  • Solid front-end fundamentals: HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Fluency with everyday dev tools: Git, bash and the Linux/Unix command line, package managers (Composer, npm), REST APIs (and tools like Postman), and browser developer tools for front-end debugging.
  • Comfort writing unit tests for your own code.
  • Scrappy and resourceful, with a bias to action - you find practical workarounds and ship even with limited resources or unclear requirements.
  • Comfortable with startup hustle and deadlines. You take ownership of timelines, communicate early when something's at risk, and consistently deliver on what you commit to.
  • Strong attention to detail - you care about getting things right, not just getting them done.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication. This is a remote role, so keeping your team in the loop, documenting your work, and coordinating proactively is essential.
  • Genuine care for the mission. A team this small works best when people want the work to matter, not just collect a paycheck.

Nice to have: prior WordPress / WooCommerce plugin or theme development, and experience with basic server / Apache configuration.

Why join Share At Door Step?

  • Real ownership, early. You'll own major modules of the product, not a narrow slice of someone else's machine.
  • Work that matters. Every feature you ship helps a reusable item reach someone who needs it - and on a small team, you see that impact directly.
  • Full-stack range. Backend, frontend, tooling, automation - you'll work across all of it and grow fast.
  • A team that cares about craft. Lean, tight-knit, and serious about doing things well.

Working Remotely

This is a fully remote role. To do it well, you'll need: reliable, good-quality internet; good equipment (a capable laptop, plus a working webcam and microphone for calls); good tech hygiene (keeping your machine, tools and accounts secure and well-maintained); and a quiet, distraction-free workspace where you can focus and take calls.

Compensation & Terms

  • CTC: as per industry standards
  • Working days: Monday to Saturday.
  • Probation: 6-month probation period. Confirmation is based on your performance.
