AZOROM has an ongoing contract with ESB and wishes to fill this present position.

The Regulatory & Markets Consultant will provide senior regulatory, market and commercial expertise to the Regulation & Compliance function within ESB Generation & Trading. Working under the direction of the Head of Regulation & Compliance, the role will provide flexible support across a broad range of regulatory, market, policy and strategic activities, working with managers and stakeholders across multiple business areas.

The successful candidate will bring significant experience in electricity markets, market design, regulatory frameworks and commercial analysis, applying this expertise to support business decision-making, regulatory strategy development and delivery of key business priorities.

The role will involve leading and supporting a variety of assignments, projects and workstreams, providing high-quality analysis, advice and recommendations on complex regulatory, market and commercial matters. The individual will be expected to operate independently, engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and contribute as a trusted adviser and collaborative team member across the wider organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist regulatory, market and commercial expertise across Generation & Trading activities.
  • Support business stakeholders through analysis, advice and delivery of assigned work programmes and projects.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, recommendations, briefing papers and other business outputs.
  • Contribute to the assessment of strategic, regulatory and commercial issues affecting the business.
  • Work collaboratively with managers and stakeholders across multiple functions and subject areas.
  • Represent ESB in internal and external engagements, as required.
  • Undertake other duties consistent with the skills, experience and objectives of the role

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Deep regulatory and electricity markets expertise.
  • Ability to work across multiple workstreams.
  • Capacity to independently deliver analysis and recommendations.
  • Significant experience within electricity markets, energy regulation, market design, market development, energy policy, commercial strategy or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of electricity market arrangements, regulatory frameworks and energy sector developments.
  • Demonstrable experience analysing complex technical, regulatory, commercial or strategic issues and providing practical recommendations.
  • Experience supporting business decision-making through evidence-based analysis and structured problem solving.
  • Strong written communication skills with experience preparing reports, briefing papers, consultation responses and management presentations.
  • Strong verbal communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and challenge constructively.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outputs within demanding timeframes.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all organisational levels.
  • Strong commercial awareness and an ability to identify regulatory, market and business implications of emerging developments.
  • Experience operating in a complex and changing environment requiring judgement, adaptability and strategic thinking.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative capabilities.
  • A proactive, self-starting and delivery-focused approach.

Qualifications

  • 3rd level degree with relevant experience.
  • Legal permission to work in Ireland
  • Resident in Ireland

Base Location

ESB’s offices at 27 Lower Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin

Hybrid working will be a feature of this role, combining remote working with attendance at base for in-person collaboration 2 days per week subject to ongoing review. A strong preference is for on site engagement.
