Job Summary
Team lead of the Private Markets team in the Risk Division. Direct report to the SVP, Investment Risk. To assist the SVP to design and implement our private markets investment risk framework, including oversight of the team focused on private markets transaction and portfolio risk assessment.
Act as a thought partner to the SVP, Investment Risk and work closely with the SVP’s direct reports to deliver on the Investment Risk team’s collective mandate across Public and Private markets. Responsible for building strong relationships across Risk and Strategy, Investment Management, Finance, IT, and other parts of the HOOPP organization. Responsible for building strong relationships with industry peers, and relevant external parties.
What you will do
- Promote HOOPP leadership’s shared mission and vision; maintain strong organizational culture.
- Establish an operating plan for the Private Markets Risk team that will support the 2025-2030 Strategic Plan.
- Lead, coach and develop the Private Markets Risk team.
- Help create an organizational culture that attracts and retains high quality staff and allows/encourages them to be highly productive and innovative.
- Leverage AI to execute on the Private Markets Risk strategy.
- Promote collaborative, effective and efficient working relationships within HOOPP (beyond Investment and Risk).
Develop strong partnerships
- Build strong relationships with your peers within Investment Risk and the broader Risk and Strategy team, as well as with the Investment Management teams, particularly those managing HOOPP’s private assets to foster effective communication and partnership.
- Build strong relationships with key external partners, colleagues, professional associations to exchange knowledge and share best practices.
Investment Risk Management Excellence
- Refresh the Private Markets Risk mandate, and ensure the appropriate foundation is in place, including team structure, processes, systems/tools to execute on the mandate.
- Build and retain the Private Markets Risk team.
- Oversee the risk review of private market transactions (including Private Equity, Real Estate, Infrastructure, Venture Capital, and others) as well as the risk assessment of any strategies within the Private Markets.
- Develop and deliver periodic portfolio level risk reviews across the private markets to inform Investment Managements’ portfolio construction and strategy considerations.
- Support broader Strategy & Risk initiatives, such as developing stress tests/scenario analysis to evaluate portfolio risks, developing perspectives on key thematics (e.g., AI, climate risk), participating in ad hoc working groups, etc.
- Support the SVP to respond quickly and appropriately to Board / Senior Management investment risk related questions as needed.
Other
- Support the SVP in providing input into board materials, presentations and educational information as required.
- Support SVP in the annual Business Planning process.
- Support the review of all internal policies as they pertain to Investment Risk Management, such as but not limited to:
- SIP&P
- IP&G
- MIP
What You Bring
- Graduate degree in business or a quantitative discipline with a relevant professional designation (i.e., ASA, FSA, CFA, CIM, FRM, PRM).
- Minimum 15 years’ work experience, including private market investing or private market risk experience, including exposure to market private transactions.
- Proven communication skills, with experience communicating with senior leaders/Board.
- Strategic and critical thinking skills, strong judgment.
- Demonstrated strong research and innovation skills.
- Ability to lead and mentor a team.
- Strong time management, organizational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.

- Excellent at building and maintaining strong working relationships across the HOOPP organization.
- Available for travel as required.
The actual base salary offered to the successful candidate may vary based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, individual's expertise and level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered.
This role is eligible to participate in discretionary incentive plan(s), subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan text.
